The Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Washington Medical Center is excited to announce a 12-month, full-time, paid clinical fellowship in speech language pathology intended to develop the skills and clinical experience necessary to achieve competency in the evaluation and evidence-based treatment of adults with voice, swallowing and upper airway disorders. The clinical experience will include multidisciplinary laryngology clinic, multidisciplinary head and neck surgery clinic, and independent outpatient and inpatient sessions under the clinical and academic mentorship of Otolaryngology faculty and staff. The clinical fellow will work as a member of a multidisciplinary team consisting of 9 speech language pathologists, 4 laryngologists, 3 head and neck surgeons, and laryngology and head and neck fellows.
Upon completion of the fellowship, the clinical fellow will demonstrate proficiency evaluating and treating a variety of complex patient populations including functional dysphonia, neurologic voice disorders, paradoxical vocal fold motion disorder, cough/laryngeal hypersensitivity, benign vocal fold lesions, head and neck cancer rehabilitation, and alaryngeal voice restoration. Additional training opportunities include acoustic voice assessment, rigid and flexible laryngeal videostroboscopy, clinical swallowing evaluations, videofluoroscopic swallow studies (VFSS), and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). In addition to clinical experience, this position offers dedicated academic time to complete a research project within the Department of Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery. It is anticipated that the clinical fellow will submit at least one abstract to a national meeting for oral or poster presentation by the end of their fellowship year. The clinical fellow will also be expected to participate in our interprofessional monthly clinical case conference for faculty, fellows and residents, and participate in resident didactics as appropriate.
The successful candidate will have graduated from an accredited Master’s program in speech language pathology. The candidate must have strong clinical experience in the evaluation and treatment of voice, swallowing, and upper airway disorders through their graduate program experience. The candidate must demonstrate a strong academic background and transcript, as well as solid recommendations of their clinical skill in the areas of voice and swallowing. The candidate should demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and self-motivation. The candidate should be eligible for State of Washington interim licensure in speech language pathology.

Clinical Fellowship in Voice & Upper AirwayUR Medicine – Strong Memorial Hospital is a leading academic healthcare institution located in Rochester, NY between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes region. Strong Memorial Hospital is a Level 1 Trauma Center accommodating approximately 800 acute inpatient beds. UR Medicine is the Region’s only Comprehensive Stroke Center and also holds an Acute Rehabilitation Unit that is both CARF and Magnet accredited. The Voice Center is part of the University of Rochester’s Department of Otolaryngology which consists of otolaryngology physicians, with specialties in pediatrics, otology / neurotology, rhinology, allergy, sleep medicine, head and neck cancer, laryngology, and facial plastics. The Voice Center consists of three fellowship trained laryngologists, and six speech-language pathologists who specialize in the treatment of voice, professional voice, breathing and swallowing disorders.
The Voice Center is seeking a qualified graduate student of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program to complete a 12-month, full-time, paid clinical fellowship. This fellowship will be focused on the evaluation and treatment of individuals with voice, breathing, upper airway and swallowing disorders.

Full Time 40 hours Speech PathologyPosition Summary:
The clinical fellow will be mentored by a certified speech-language pathologist and work as part of a team in the interdisciplinary laryngology clinic. He or she will be responsible for completing evaluations and developing individualized treatment plans, participating in voice team meetings, presenting an educational lecture to the speech-language pathology department, attending monthly departmental and educational meetings and completing daily documentation and billing through the electronic medical record system.
The clinical fellowship year at the Voice Center will provide the opportunity to gain experience and training in the areas of acoustic and aerodynamic voice assessment, stroboscopy, fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing studies, modified barium swallow studies, in-clinic swallowing evaluations, and therapy for voice, swallowing and breathing disorders. Given the large population of individuals with Parkinson Disease seen in our clinic, the clinical fellow will be encouraged to become SPEAK OUT trained, in order to serve this population and assist with facilitation of LOUD Crowd. In addition, opportunities will be provided for observation of laryngeal imaging, assessment and specialized procedures including bronchoscopy, laryngeal EMG and Botox injections with the laryngologists. Candidates should also be prepared to be involved in the assessment and treatment of other adult speech and language disorders (i.e., dysarthria, fluency).
Minimum Education & Experience Requirements:
Interested candidates should have a strong interest and background in the evaluation and treatment of voice, swallowing and breathing disorders as demonstrated through their graduate coursework and/ or clinical internships. The candidate must have completed their master’s level coursework at an accredited University program in speech-language pathology prior to beginning the position. The candidate must have a strong academic background, be highly motivated, demonstrate initiative and be independent and ready to work in a busy, fast-paced clinical environment. Experience working with SPEAK OUT / LOUD Crowd, transgender or singing voice clients is a plus.

The Speech-Language Pathology section at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center is proud to announce a CF position beginning September 2021. Patients are seen in person and virtually via VA Video Connect, in both individual and small group settings.
The CF applicant can expect skill advancement in all areas of medical speech pathology, with technical skill refinement in fluoroscopic (MBSS) and endoscopic (FEES) swallow evaluations, augmentative communication, laryngeal videostroboscopy, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration. A year-long CF position in speech-language pathology is available through the Geriatric Research Education and Clinical Center (GRECC) at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. This will be a blended fellowship experience incorporating training through the Speech Pathology section and the GRECC.
The Speech Pathology Section offers services to inpatient and outpatient Veterans in a Level 1B (second highest medical complexity) acute care hospital comprised of 113 inpatient hospital beds (including residents of the Community Living Center and hospice care unit) and a 16-bed intensive care unit. The CF will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, Med/Surg, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies. All CFs will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation/treatment of individuals with dysphagia (videofluoroscopy), speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders and voice disorders. They will also gain specialized experience in cognitive rehabilitation for veterans with mTBI, neurogenic communication disorders, endoscopic procedures (FEES and laryngovideostroboscopy), head and neck cancer, total laryngectomy education and tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis maintenance.
The CF will also participate in several weekly Geriatric-based interdisciplinary clinics. Trainees will be integrated directly into these interdisciplinary geriatrics teams and, through administration of standardized screening tools, will identify those Veterans who would benefit from additional dysphagia, speech/language, and/or cognitive intervention from the Speech Pathology service. Additionally, the CF trainee will complete a dysphagia-focused research project through integration with Dr. Rogus-Pulia’s research program. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology, geriatrics, and dysphagia research, as well as a desire to grow professionally in a fast-paced, learning-oriented medical setting.

Augusta, Georgia is home of the Master’s Tournament and offers a variety of activities for the outdoor enthusiast. Augusta is home to a large medical community and the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center (CNVAMC) is one of six medical centers within the area. The CNVAMC is a two division medical center and has been designated as a Level II Polytrauma site. CNVAMC has CARF accredited programs for inpatient rehabilitation in Spinal Cord Injury, Subacute/Medical Rehabilitation, and Blind Rehabilitation. Our Speech Pathologists hold many specialty certifications, including Certified Brain Injury Specialist, Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, and Certification in Lee Silverman Voice Therapy, among others.
Clinical fellows (CFs) are encouraged to be active participants in interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary teams in patient care. CFs evaluate and treat cognitive communication impairments, language disorders, motor speech disorders, voice disorders, and swallowing disorders related to a variety of diagnoses, including stroke, spinal cord injury, head and neck cancer, TBI, etc. CFs receive training in instrumental assessment and treatment, including modified barium swallow studies, FEES, and stroboscopy. CFs will gain experience by working in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient clinics, and community living centers. CFs work closely with many specialty services and teams, including gastroenterology, radiology, neurology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation medicine, nutrition, pulmonology, otorhinolaryngology, primary care physicians, mental health, and the TBI/Polytrauma program.
CFs with a strong medical speech pathology background, strong academic background, and the desire to grow professionally in a diverse learning environment are encouraged to apply.
The Clinical Fellowship stipend is for 1 year (12 months, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week) and pays approximately $39,423.00 plus benefits. Health insurance is also available and costs vary depending upon coverage.
