The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System is currently accepting applications for a

The Southern Arizona VA in Tucson, AZ is offering an exciting Clinical Fellowship experience serving inpatients, outpatients, and rehabilitation residents of our Community Living Center. This dynamic setting will offer training in evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive-communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders,
swallowing disorders/dysphagia and voice disorders. Over the course of the rotation, the Clinical Fellow can expect training in performing swallow evaluations (bedside, fluoroscopic, and endoscopic), endoscopic voice evaluations, post laryngectomy voice restoration, language and cognitive evaluations/therapy, transgender voice and communication
therapy, as well as assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition. The CF will work professionally with a variety of specialty services and interdisciplinary teams, some of which include: Nursing, PT/OT, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, Polytrauma/TBI clinic, Transgender clinic, multidisciplinary ALS clinic, and General Medicine.

Tucson boasts a truly unique culture, landscape, and food scene. Central and Downtown Tucson are full of shops, restaurants, breweries, and activities. The Tucson Gem & Mineral Show, historic Tucson Rodeo, El Tour de Tucson, as well as the All Souls Procession are annual events not to miss. With 350 sunny days a year, our outdoor activities are
bountiful (hiking, biking, climbing, etc.). Summers are hot (but it is a “dry” heat), and winters are lovely! Weekend or day trips can take you to snow, water, more mountains, and even the Grand Canyon.

Phoenix VA Medical Center CF

The Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) is happy to announce the availability of a
full-time, one year Clinical Fellowship in Speech-Language Pathology, to begin late summer or early fall of 2021.

At PVAHCS, we serve inpatients, outpatients, and residents of the Community Living Center. We
deliver services both in person and via telehealth. You will learn to evaluate and treat adults with cognitive-communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, and dysphonia. You will also gain experience with fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration. Patients are seen along the continuum of care, including acute/intensive, outpatient, teletherapy via VA video connect, and long-term care. You can expect close interaction with a variety of specialty services, including Ear/Nose/Throat; Physical Medicine & Rehab; Nutrition, Hospitality & Food; Post-Covid rehab, and Prosthetics & Sensory Aids. We work with a large and very active OEF/OIF population, as well as patients with ALS who are seen in our interdisciplinary ALS clinic, and patients with transgender-related communication needs. We are enrolled into a national
Intensive Dysphagia Team. PVAHCS Speech Pathologists hold various specialty certifications, including Board Certification in Neurologic Communication Disorders, Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing Disorders, and certification in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment and SpeakOut. Phoenix is America’s fifth largest city according to population, with affordable housing and an extensive freeway system that connects all parts of the valley. Arizona has vast national forest lands that provide a variety of recreational activities, such as skiing, horseback riding, boating, hiking, and camping.

San Antonio TX VA Clinical Fellowship

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System Speech-Language Pathology section is pleased to announce one Clinical Fellowship
opportunity for 2021-2022. The goal of the Clinical Fellowship is to provide experience in the Speech-Language Pathology scope of
practice along a broad continuum of care. This position is a temporary appointment not to exceed one year.

The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, a level 1A – high complexity facility, is the primary training site and will offer the clinical fellow experience in evaluation and treatment of cognitive communication, language, motor speech, swallowing, and voice
disorders. In addition to outpatient clinics and acute inpatient care, the fellow will rotate through the following specialized areas: Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center, Polytrauma Transitional Rehabilitation Program, Home-Based Primary Care, and the Community Living Center. Training will include:
• Fluoroscopic swallow evaluations
• Endoscopic swallow evaluations
• Stroboscopic voice evaluations
• Post-laryngectomy voice restoration
• ALS multidisciplinary clinic

The Speech Pathology program at the San Francisco VA System of Care provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services for
inpatients, out-patients (including telehealth delivery of care) and residents of our Community Living Center for Veteran
populations ranging from young adult to geriatric. The CF will provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology,
and may also gain specialized experience in endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, tracheostomy, post-laryngectomy
voice restoration, AAC use particularly in the ALS population and experience with certified LSVT clinicians as the SFVA
Medical Center has 1 of the 6 PADRECC Centers in the VHA.
The SFVA Medical Center is an integral part of the medical residency program of UC San Francisco and enjoys a dynamic
teaching/learning environment. The CF will interact with a variety of specialty services, including Neurology,
Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, Critical Care, Otolaryngology, Radiology, Pulmonary, OT/PT, N&FS,
Nursing, Palliative Care and Respiratory Therapy.
We are seeking clinical fellow with a strong interest in general medical speech pathology and internship experience in
the acute care medical setting. The candidate must have the ability to learn in a fast-paced clinical environment. LSVT
Certification and FEES experience is a plus.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison & UW Health are pleased to announce openings for our 2021 – 2022 Speech Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship Program. We offer fellowships in our multiple specialty areas: adult voice, adult swallow, pediatric inpatient and outpatient and acute care-inpatient speech, language and swallow. Each specialty has its own unique focus, with the goal of the overall clinical fellowship experience being that of a multi-disciplinary approach to medical care for inpatients and outpatients at a state-of-the art institution.

The UW Clinical Fellowship Program is an intensive 12-month program where clinical education is viewed as a dynamic process.  Clinical fellows participate actively in learning to apply didactic information to clinical practice with patients who have a wide range of disorders.

 

PROGRAM AT A GLANCE  

We are seeking clinical fellows who demonstrate strengths in the following:

  1. Ability to analyze and synthesize information from a broad-based fund of knowledge in medical communication and voice science and disorders
  2. Ability to engage in evidence-based problem solving
  3. Motivation to achieve an advanced level of clinical competence in prevention, screening, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with voice and swallowing disorders
  4. The ability to communicate effectively and professionally in a multidisciplinary medical setting
  5. Self-evaluation resulting in actively identifying steps to develop new skills and acquire knowledge
  6. Ethical, responsible, and professional conduct

In addition to clinical expectations, fellows will be expected to participate in the following:

  1. Conduction and completion of your own clinical research project
  2. Weekly multi-disciplinary case conference, with regular clinical case presentations
  3. Outreach activities

Washington DC VA Medical Center CF

The Washington DC VA Medical Center is seeking candidates for a Speech-Language Pathology Clinical

Fellowship position for 2021-2022

The clinical fellow will gain experience in evaluation and treatment of adults with traumatic brain injury, cognitive-communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, and dysphonia. Clinical fellows will also receive training in performing modified barium swallow, FEES, and stroboscopy studies; and providing gender affirming voice services, pre- and post- laryngectomy education and voice restoration, and assessing patients for use of assistive technology. The CF will manage their own caseload and see patients along the continuum of care from intensive care units, outpatient care, sub-acute rehab, long-term care, and hospice/palliative care. They will gain experience in conducting both individual and
group therapy sessions. The CF will also interact with a variety of specialty services including neurology, rehab medicine, ENT and laryngology, geriatrics, and primary care, as well as participate in interdisciplinary team meetings.

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System Clinical Fellowships provide experience medical speech pathology.  Outcomes and evidence based practice is emphasized.  The Clinical Fellow may have opportunity for specialized training in endoscopy, post laryngectomy voice restoration, and assistive technology.   The Clinical Fellow will work closely with a
variety of specialty services and teams, including Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Primary Care, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Care Teams, Spinal Cord Injury and Disease Unit, and the Traumatic Brain Injury/Polytrauma Program.

This yearlong Clinical Fellowship is divided into 3-4 separate rotations, located at both the Seattle and American Lake Divisions. The Seattle division offers training in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and spinal cord injury units, a community living center, and specialty outpatient clinics. The American Lake division (in Lakewood, Washington) offers training in outpatient clinics, the community living center, and specialty teams (e.g. ALS, Polytrauma, Stroke). Our staff
are devoted to our training/mentoring program and Clinical Fellows can expect to work closely with their clinical supervisors. We are seeking applicants with a strong interest in medical speech pathology, an ability to learn in a fast pace environment, have a strong academic background, and some clinical experience in a medical setting.

The Speech-Language Pathology Section at MVAHCS is pleased to announce two (2) Clinical Fellowship positions available with desired start in Summer 2021.

 

Clinical Fellows participate in an interdisciplinary team approach to evaluation and treatment of veterans and service members.  Veterans served cross the age span from young adult through older adult populations.   CFs evaluate and treat communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders related to stroke, head and neck cancer, TBI & Polytrauma and a wide variety of other medical diagnoses. They may provide aural rehabilitation and transgender communication services, as well.  CFs receive training in instrumental assessment and treatment procedures including modified barium swallows, FEES, and stroboscopy. CFs are active participants in the care of patients in medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units (acute, subacute), outpatient clinics, and intensive care units.  The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is a specialty site for Assistive Technology, a TBI Center of Excellence, and is one of five recognized Polytrauma Centers in the VA.  MVAHCS offers CARF-accredited programs in inpatient rehabilitation for amputation, brain injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury; residential transitional rehabilitation for brain injury,  outpatient brain injury and spinal cord injury, assistive technology, and chronic pain.

Eligibility Criteria: 1) Graduate in good standing from a CAA-approved Master’s program in Communication Disorders, 2) U.S. Citizen, 3) Eligible for provisional licensure in Speech-Language Pathology.

Details of the Position: The position is temporary with a 12 month tour. Start date must occur between June 1 and October 1.  Base salary is $42,384. With benefits, total salary package is $50,245.
