CFY at Phoenix VA Health Care System

The Phoenix VA Health Care System (PVAHCS) is happy to announce the availability of a full-time, one year Clinical Fellowship in Speech-Language Pathology, to begin late summer or early fall of 2020.

At PVAHCS, we serve inpatients, outpatients, and residents of the Community Living Center. We deliver services both in person and via telehealth. You will learn to evaluate and treat adults with cognitive-communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria, dysphagia, and dysphonia. You will also gain experience with fluoroscopic and endoscopic swallow evaluations, endoscopic voice evaluations, and post-laryngectomy voice restoration. Patients are seen along the continuum of care, including acute/intensive, outpatient, and long-term care. You can expect close interaction with a variety of specialty services, including Ear/Nose/Throat; Physical Medicine & Rehab; Nutrition, Hospitality & Food; and Prosthetics & Sensory Aids. We work with a large and very active OEF/OIF population, as well as patients with ALS who are seen in our interdisciplinary ALS clinic, and patients with transgender-related communication needs. PVAHCS Speech Pathologists hold various specialty certifications, including Board Certification in Neurologic Communication Disorders, Board Certification in Swallowing and Swallowing
Disorders, and certification in Lee Silverman Voice Treatment.

CF Opportunity in the San Francisco VA Healthcare System

Position begins: 8/17/20

The Speech Pathology program at the San Francisco VA Health Care System provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services for inpatients,  out-patients (including telehealth delivery of care) and residents of our Community Living Center for Veteran populations ranging from young adult to geriatric.  The CF will provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, and may also gain specialized experience in endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, tracheostomy, post-laryngectomy voice restoration, AAC use particularly in the ALS population and experience with certified LSVT clinicians as the SFVA Medical Center has 1 of the 6 PADRECC Centers in the VHA.

The SFVA Medical Center is an integral part of the medical residency program of UC San Francisco and enjoys a dynamic teaching/learning environment.  The CF will interact with a variety of specialty services, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery,  General Surgery, Critical Care, Otolaryngology, Radiology, Pulmonary, OT/PT, N&FS, Nursing, Palliative Care and Respiratory Therapy.

We are seeking clinical fellow with a strong interest in general medical speech pathology and internship experience in the acute care medical setting.  The candidate must have the ability to learn in a fast-paced clinical environment.  LSVT Certification and FEES experience is a plus.

CFY Opportunities in the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System

Three Clinical Fellow (CF) training positions in Speech Pathology are available at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS). The positions involve clinical rotations through both the University Drive and H.J. Heinz divisions of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System as well as participation in a unique intensive residential aphasia treatment program (http://www.pittsburgh.va.gov/PIRATE/ ). There is a significant emphasis on mentoring during these fellowships and interested individuals can expect to gain experience with and knowledge of the full range of adult medical speech-language pathology services.

The University Drive division is a Level 1a (highest complexity) acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient Speech Pathology services while the Heinz division is a skilled nursing facility with acute and sub-acute rehabilitation, and palliative care units. Opportunities to learn or further develop skills in clinical swallowing evaluations, instrumental swallowing evaluations, TEP placement/management, and tracheostomy and ventilator dependent communication and swallowing evaluation/management will be provided. Clinical experiences in diagnosis and treatment of aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive-communication impairments are also an integral part of the CFY.

CFY Opportunity in the Miami VA Healthcare System

The Miami VA Healthcare System, Audiology and Speech Pathology Service is announcing the availability of a full time (40 hours per week) Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) opportunity. This is a temporary appointment for one year without potential for permanent employment. Only U.S. citizens are eligible to apply. The starting date will be between July/August 2020. The appointment is for 12 months, 2080 hours. The compensation package includes base salary as well as medical and leave benefits.

We are a Level III Polytrauma Clinic Support Team, we provide Telehealth services to the home, our Speech Pathology section interacts closely with a variety of teams including Otolaryngology, Radiology, Nutrition, Geriatrics, Spinal Cord, to name a few. We are part of the CARF accredited acute rehab unit, and work closely with the surgical intensive care and medical intensive care units as well as our Community Living Center.  The Clinical Fellow will have the opportunity to gain experience with instrumental exams (fluoroscopy, FEES, videostroboscopy) as well as various special populations (Head & Neck Cancer, Transgender, alaryngeal speech/tracheoesophageal puncture, cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, dysarthria, ALS/alternative/augmentative communication systems).

We view the CFY as a year of advanced clinical learning.  Anyone interested in working and learning in a fast-paced speech language pathology program with a strong emphasis on evidence based practice who has strong academic credentials and internship experience in a medical setting should contact us.

The Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology in the College of Health Professions at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) seeks applicants for a full-time, 12-month faculty position, located in Little Rock, Arkansas. We are searching for a team-oriented faculty member. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The faculty member will report to the program director of the audiology program in the Department of Audiology and Speech Pathology and will have primary responsibilities of teaching AuD and PhD courses; advising graduate students; directing student research; conducting scholarly activity; supervising graduate students in clinical practicum; and participating in university, community and professional service.

CF Position at Oregon Health and Science University (Portland, OR)

The division of speech-language pathology in the Institute on Development and Disability at Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. OR is currently seeking applicants for the 2020-21 LEND Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship

About the Program

The LEND post degree Fellowship in Speech-Language Pathology is a full-time position that lasts for 12 months, and is primarily clinical in nature. The CDRC Clinics at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the primary clinical training setting, are staffed by our faculty of 9 speech-language pathologists. Training experiences include interdisciplinary team assessments in the Craniofacial, Feeding, Autism, Down Syndrome, Child Development, and Neurodevelopment Clinics. The fellowship also includes treatment of children with communication disorders, at community placements or at CDRC Clinics at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital.

In addition to clinical experience, the Clinical Fellow will also participate in:

  • Interdisciplinary training in the LEND program
  • Weekly interdisciplinary seminars with topics related to community outreach, family issues that affect children with developmental disabilities, leadership, and policy development
  • Participation in a family mentoring experience
  • A research project and presentation under the guidance of a mentor

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (LEND) program at the CDRC is recognized as one of the premier programs in the country for training leadership in clinical care and coordination, family systems, education, public policy, community resources, and advocacy for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, utilizing an interdisciplinary model. Our LEND program includes faculty and a cohort of approximately 16 long term trainees from 12 disciplines including speech-language pathology annually.

This fellowship is co-sponsored by the Division of Speech-Language Pathology and the Institute on Development and Disability at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.

Applicants must be a US Citizen or have a permanent residency Visa, have the minimum of a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, a conditional license to practice in the state of Oregon, and meet all the requirements for certification except the Clinical Fellowship. Terms

Modest stipends will be available for the 2020-21 academic year. Stipends are contingent upon continued grant funding. Fellowships are funded by a grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau. The beginning date for the fellowship is the first week of September.

Once selected, trainees will be required to demonstrate that they have health insurance and that they have received all required vaccinations.

Fellows are required to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations, and if the full panel required by OHSU is not current, then they will need to update vaccinations at their expense. Current required vaccinations include: Diphtheria+Tetanus (within the last 10 years), Polio, Rubella, and Rubeola, or proof of prior disease. Fellows are required to provide proof of personal medical insurance coverage prior to starting training, and must maintain that coverage over the course of the training period. Additional financial support is added to the stipend to assist with obtaining insurance (see Stipend/Benefits).

Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor Position at Arizona State University

The College of Health Solutions at Arizona State University invites applicants to join an active and growing speech and language program.  We are seeking a Clinical Assistant or Associate Professor for a 12-month, full time, non-tenure position in the MS Communication Disorders Program who will have a specialty focus in voice disorder. In addition to voice, other beneficial areas include neurogenic communication disorders, pediatric feeding, and fluency. Incoming rank of assistant or associate professor will be determined based on prior experience.  This appointment is expected to begin April 15, 2020.  This is a fixed-term appointment that is renewable annually.  Subsequent one-year appointments may be offered, under the same terms and conditions, at the discretion of the college and university.

Responsibilities include providing a variety of diagnostic and rehabilitative services to patients, supervising SLP Masters students in our in-house clinic and off-site placements, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses in speech-language pathology or related topics, and participating in clinic/program service activities in the development and/or expansion of services within the clinic and/or the Communication Disorders Master of Science program.

SPEECH PATHOLOGY CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP VA PUGET SOUND HEALTH CARE SYSTEM DUE JAN 31, 2020

The VA Puget Sound Health Care System Clinical Fellowships provide experience medical speech pathology.  Outcomes and evidence based practice is emphasized.  The Clinical Fellow may have opportunity for specialized training in endoscopy, post laryngectomy voice restoration, and assistive technology.   The Clinical Fellow will work closely with a variety of specialty services and teams, including Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, Otolaryngology, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Primary Care, Multiple Sclerosis and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Care Teams, Spinal Cord Injury and Disease Unit, and the Traumatic Brain Injury/Polytrauma Program.

This yearlong Clinical Fellowship is divided into 4 separate rotations, located at both the Seattle and American Lake Divisions. The Seattle division offers training in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation and spinal cord injury units, a community living center, and specialty outpatient clinics. The American Lake division (in Lakewood, Washington) offers training in outpatient clinics, the community living center, and specialty teams (e.g. ALS, Polytrauma, Stroke). Our staff are devoted to our training/mentoring program and Clinical Fellows can expect to work closely with their clinical supervisors. We are seeking applicants with a strong interest in medical speech pathology, an ability to learn in a fast pace environment, have a strong academic background, and some clinical experience in a medical setting.
