Honors GSA Position Open for the 2019-2020 School Year

The University Honors Program is hiring a staff support graduate staff assistant for the 2019-20 academic year!

The University Honors Program is an innovative space and collaborative community engaged in rigorous interdisciplinary exploration. Students can pursue Honors as a general education track, as an in-depth program within their majors, or as a combination of the two. They may apply as new freshmen, at the end of their first year, or once they’ve selected a major. We prepare our students to ask and answer bold questions about the challenges facing our ever-changing world through participation in small classes with faculty from across campus and work across the university, and by challenging themselves and each other to take intellectual risks and commit to conscious global citizenship.

The University Honors Program has an outstanding opportunity for a 50% FTE Graduate Staff Assistant appointment, 20 hours/week, 220 hours total for the three months of each quarter during the Autumn 2019-Spring 2020 academic year. This position is eligible for a tuition/fee waiver per the terms of the ASE union contract, along with GAIP health care benefits. It offers a valuable hands-on opportunity to assist higher education professionals the operations and administration of the Honors Program.

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide basic reception and administrative support for the Honors Program. 
  • General representation of the Program to the public/stakeholders via phone, email, and in person as the primary reception staff.
  • Assist with academic services projects, including: manage drop-in advising logistics; gauge students needs and urgency; explain timelines and processes, and prompt portfolio reflection and engagement.
  • Assist faculty and respond to basic course questions.
  • Manage programmatic communications including: the general email and telephone, assemble weekly announcements, and maintain an announcements blog and the program Facebook page.
  • Take initiative to research answers questions and provide answers, including reaching out to appropriate staff/resources to track down answers.
  • Assist with event planning and management.
  • Provide support to all admissions processes, including: answer questions about applications and timelines, evaluate applications for freshman admissions, assist prospective students/families in gathering information and scheduling visits.
  • Assist with tasks related to general administration, including: copying, mail pick up and distribution, space management and cleanliness, technology checkout management.
  • Provide general oversight of front desk and common areas for efficiency and cleanliness.
  • Work on additional projects to assist all Honors staff as needed.

Dates of Employment: 

September 16, 2019 – June 15, 2020.

Hours:

20 hours per week, in the Honors Program office between 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. weekdays (exact dates/time TBD).

Requirements:

Must be formally enrolled in a program in the UW Graduate School for at least 10 credits during Autumn 2019, Winter 2020, and Spring Quarter 2020.

Assistant Professor Position at Eastern Kentucky University

Eastern Kentucky University’s graduate program in Communication Disorders is searching for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank.

Job Description: The Communication Disorders and Sciences Program at Eastern Kentucky University is accepting applications for a 9-month, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. The successful candidate will teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in the CD program area and will advise students at the undergraduate and graduate level. The candidate will be expected to engage in scholarly activity and provide service to the department, college, university, community, and profession. This position is scheduled to begin August 2019. 

Requirements: 

  • Must have an earned doctorate in speech-language pathology from a regionally accredited institution (ABD will be considered)
  • Must have CCC-SLP certification and eligibility for Kentucky licensure.
  • Expertise in voice, fluency, or neurogenic communication disorders is desired.

Independence Rehab is in search of a full-time SLP to float between 2 of their facilities, Talbot Rehabilitation Center and Renton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, in Renton, WA. These locations are located within 10 minutes of each other so the commute would be a breeze!

Committee Position with the Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF)

The Campus Sustainability Fund (CSF) is a student-led, student-funded organization housed in the UW Sustainability Office in Gerberding Hall. The Services and Activities Fee (SAF) along with the Student Technology Fee (STF) makes available approximately half a million dollars each year for student-driven sustainability projects. Since its founding in 2010, the CSF has approved over 154 projects representing many aspects of sustainability and totaling close to 2.7 million dollars in funding.

The CSF consists of 8 student committee member along with other non-voting, ex-officio staff advisors. The committee is responsible for providing direction for all aspects of the fund; including project approval, strategic visioning, budget oversight, etc.

They are seeking students to serve as a part of its committee in the 2019-2020 school year. This position is up to a 2-year term for a graduate student to serve as the Environmental Stewardship Committee (ESC) representative. It is an exciting opportunity for graduate students to get involved in the decision-making process of CSF grants along with gaining skills in leadership, budgeting and understanding of grant-making.

SLP and Possible CF at Cascade Children’s Therapy (Mill Creek, WA)

Cascade Children’s Therapy is a pediatric clinic in Mill Creek, WA. They see kids anywhere from birth to 18 years of age with a wide range of abilities They have a combination of Speech Therapists, OTs, and PTs working in the clinic, and often share clients and collaborate across disciplines. The position would ideally start mid-June, however they are flexible on the start date and can wait until September/October when all licensing paperwork goes through for new grads. They are also open to hiring a CF.
