ONE full-time, one year (12 month) Clinical Fellowship position available.

  • Applicants with a strong academic/clinical background in dysphagia (including MBSS/FEES), language disorders, neurogenic cognitive/communication disorders, voice, and prior VA placement are preferred.

The San Diego VA Speech Pathology Department provides services to a varied outpatient population and to inpatients throughout the medical center.  The Clinical Fellow will be expected to evaluate and treat patients within the Outpatient Clinic, Spinal Cord Injury unit, Comprehensive Inpatient Acute Rehab unit, Community Living Center, Palliative unit, Psych unit, ICU, and medical surgical floors.  Some of the populations served included neuro (CVA, ALS, MS, Parkinson’s), head and neck cancer, vent/trach, mTBI, TBI, voice and alaryngeal speakers.  Specialty procedures provided include FEES, MBSS, video stroboscopy and voice prosthesis management.

The appointment is 12 months, 2080 hours.  Start date as early as July 2024; no later than September 2024.

Work week = 40 hours.  Tour to be discussed at interview.  Speech Pathology services are offered at this site 7 days/week.  Stipend of $46,692 + benefits

Clinical Fellow (CF) training positions in Speech Pathology are available at the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS) for the coming year. The positions involve clinical rotations through both the University Drive and H.J. Heinz divisions of the VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System as well as participation in a unique intensive residential aphasia treatment program (https://veteranshealthfoundation.org/pirate/). There is a significant emphasis on mentoring during these fellowships and interested individuals can expect to gain experience with and knowledge of the full range of adult medical Speech-Language pathology services.

The University Drive division is a Level 1a (highest complexity) acute care hospital offering both inpatient and outpatient Speech Pathology services while the Heinz division is a skilled nursing facility with acute and sub-acute rehabilitation, and palliative care units. Both sites provide telehealth services. Opportunities to learn or further develop skills in clinical swallowing evaluations, instrumental swallowing evaluations, TEP placement/management, and tracheostomy and ventilator dependent communication and swallowing evaluation/management will be provided. Clinical experiences in diagnosis and treatment of aphasia, motor speech disorders, and cognitive-communication impairments are also an integral part of the CFY.

The Speech-Language Pathology Section at MVAHCS is pleased to announce two (2) Clinical Fellowship positions available with start in Summer 2024.

Clinical Fellows participate in an interdisciplinary team approach to evaluation and treatment of veterans and service members.  Veterans served cross the age span from young adult through older adult populations.   CFs evaluate and treat communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders related to stroke, head and neck cancer, TBI & Polytrauma and a wide variety of other medical diagnoses. They may provide aural rehabilitation and transgender communication services, as well.  CFs receive training in instrumental assessment and treatment procedures including modified barium swallows, FEES, and stroboscopy. CFs are active participants in the care of patients in medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units (acute, subacute), telehealth, outpatient clinics, and intensive care unit.  The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is a specialty site for Assistive Technology, a TBI Center of Excellence, and is one of five recognized Polytrauma Centers in the VA.  MVAHCS offers CARF-accredited programs in inpatient rehabilitation for amputation, brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, residential transitional rehabilitation for brain injury, outpatient brain injury and spinal cord injury, assistive technology, and chronic pain.

The Speech Pathology program at the San Francisco VA System of Care provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services for acute and critical care inpatients, out-patients (including telehealth delivery of care), short stay in-patient rehabilitation  and residents of our Community Living Center for Veteran populations ranging from young adult to geriatric.  The CF will provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, and may also gain specialized experience in endoscopic evaluation of swallowing, tracheostomy, post-laryngectomy voice restoration, AAC use particularly in the ALS population.   The SFVA Medical Center has 1 of the 6 PADRECC Centers in the VHA and the CF will gain experience in treating PD voice and swallowing with all supervisors being LSVT and Speak Out! certified clinicians.

The SFVA Medical Center is an integral part of the medical residency program of UC San Francisco and enjoys a dynamic teaching/learning environment.  The CF will interact with a variety of specialty services, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery,  General Surgery, Critical Care, Otolaryngology, Oncology, Radiology, Pulmonary, OT/PT, Nutrition, Nursing, Palliative Care and Respiratory Therapy.

The South Texas Veterans Health Care System Speech-Language Pathology section is pleased to announce two Clinical Fellowship opportunities for 2024-2025. The goal of the Clinical Fellowship is to provide experience in the Speech-Language Pathology scope of practice along a broad continuum of care. These positions are temporary appointments, not to exceed one year. The Audie L. Murphy Memorial Veterans Hospital, a level 1A – high complexity facility, is the primary training site and will offer the clinical fellow experience in evaluation and treatment of cognitive communication, language, motor speech, swallowing, and voice disorders. The Clinical Fellowship provides a well-rounded experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults in all areas of medical speech pathology including dysphagia, speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders, voice disorders, and tracheostomy. Specialty areas in head & neck cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, TBI, trach/vent, AAC, and transgender voice are also offered. Our department serves inpatients, outpatients (in-clinic and telehealth), and rehabilitation residents of the Community Living Center.

Over the course of this year long rotation, the Clinical Fellow can expect to have a combination of inpatient and outpatient experience to include training in swallow evaluations (bedside, fluoroscopic, and endoscopic), endoscopic voice evaluations (flexible and rigid), post laryngectomy voice restoration, language and cognitive therapy, participation in comprehensive rehab teams for ALS, Parkinson’s, and Spinal Cord Injury (SCI), as well as assistive technology for augmentative communication. The CF will work with a variety of specialty services and teams via interdisciplinary rounds and collaboration, including: Otolaryngology, General Medicine Hospitalist teams, Nursing, Neurology, Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation Medicine, Nutrition, SCI, and Primary Care.

Located in the high desert of northern New Mexico, Albuquerque experiences four seasons a year which allows for the enjoyment of one of the most diverse geographical regions in the country year-round. ****Please note, due to significant number of applications received each year, only the first 50 complete application packets received will be considered. This will ensure we are able to fully review and consider all application packet material for each of those 50 applicants. If you are within the first 50 applications received, you will be provided confirmation of receipt.

Application packets must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. (MST) Friday, February 2nd, 2024. Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
