The Speech Pathology program at the San Francisco VA Medical Center provides diagnostic and rehabilitative services for inpatients, out-patients (including telehealth delivery of care) and residents of our CLC for Veteran populations ranging from young adult to geriatric. The CF will provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including dysphagia, cognitive-communicative impairment, aphasia, dysarthria and voice. The CF may also gain specialized experience in endoscopic evaluation of swallowing and voice, tracheostomy, post-laryngectomy voice restoration, AAC use particularly in the ALS population and experience with certified LSVT clinicians as the SFVA Medical Center has 1 of the 6 PADRECC Centers in the VHA.

The SFVA Medical Center is an integral part of the medical residency program of UCSF and enjoys a dynamic teaching/learning environment. The CF will interact with a variety of specialty services, including Neurology, Neurosurgery, Vascular Surgery, General Surgery, Critical Care, Otolaryngology, Radiology, Pulmonary, OT/PT, N&FS, Nursing, Palliative Care and Respiratory Therapy.

We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology with internship experience in the acute care medical setting and a desire to learn in a fast-paced medical setting.

Audiology Externship (Lincoln, NE)

Lakeshore Professional Voice Center Clinical Fellowship

Lakeshore Professional Voice Center (LPVC), Lakeshore Ear, Nose & Throat Center is accepting applications for clinical fellowship positions in voice pathology beginning in the fall of 2019. LPVC is located in St. Clair Shores, MI outside of Detroit.  LPVC provides outstanding training for evaluation and treatment of all voice disorders, including the speaking and singing voice, as well as swallowing and airway disorders. Clinical fellows train under the tutelage of Juliana Codino, MS, CCC-SLP, PhDC and laryngologist, Adam Rubin, M.D. and experience an interdisciplinary team approach to care of the patient. Clinical fellows become proficient in voice therapy, acoustic and aerodynamic assessment, respiratory retraining, videostroboscopy and flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing. Opportunities to participate in research and teaching of speech pathology students are provided as well.

This is a 1-year fellowship.  The requirements for applicants are as follows:

Student Assistants (Othello-UW Commons)

The Othello-UW Commons is a new initiative of the University of Washington and is a whole-University effort involving the leadership of the Executive Office as well as that of nearly half of the UW’s schools and colleges.

The Othello-UW Commons is an approximately 2,200 square foot teaching, learning, and event/gathering space under lease by the UW in a new multi-use complex located in Southeast Seattle adjacent to the Othello light rail station. Collaborators in the Othello-UW Commons will seek to build upon and extend enduring community partnerships and catalyze new, mutually reinforcing partnerships in Southeast Seattle for years to come. Undergraduate Academic Affairs, a unit which shapes, advances and stewards a world-class undergraduate academic experience for students at the UW, will serve as the administrative home for this work and position. The space will open January 16th and programs will start the week of January 14th. All of the student jobs will take place at the Othello UW Commons in Southeast Seattle.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Othello-UW Commons seeks two hourly student assistants (undergraduate or graduate). Each student will report directly to the manager and maintain, clean and organize meeting and classroom spaces in a brand new learning, teaching and meeting venue. The students will also collaborate with other student workers and full time staff to provide customer service and be the point of contact for users of the space. The students must be willing to work evenings (5-9pm M-Thursday) and occasionally on the weekends. Each student may be asked to staff the space alone.

RESPONSIBILITIES

The primary responsibilities of this position will be to support the day to day operations of the Othello UW Commons including but not limited to:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operation of the facility, taking lead from the Manager of the Othello-UW Commons as well the Administrative Assistant
  • Open and close the classrooms and offices
  • Communicate with the property management to ensure the security of the facility
  • Maintain security incident log
  • Setup/reset the rooms before and after classes and programs
  • Ensure that guests adhere to policies and procedures for using wifi and audiovisual equipment
  • Notify Manager and/or Administrative Assistant of any maintenance needs
  • Work directly with Manager and Administrative Assistant to resolve general building, custodial and common area issues
  • Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meet minimum enrollment requirements for UW undergraduate or graduate students
  • Excellent customer service skills manifested in an ability to interact politely and respectfully with space users and visitors including UW staff, students and faculty as well as community members

2 CF Positions, Minneapolis VA System

Desired start in Summer 2019.

Clinical Fellows participate in a truly interdisciplinary team approach to evaluation and treatment of veterans and service members served within the medical center.  Veterans served cross the age span from young adult through older adult populations. CFs evaluate and treat communication, cognitive and swallowing disorders related to stroke, head and neck cancer, TBI & Polytrauma and a wide variety of other medical diagnoses. They may provide aural rehabilitation and Transgender communication services as well.  CFs receive training in instrumental assessment and treatment procedures including modified barium swallows, FEES, and stroboscopy. Many therapies may be delivered via a range of Clinical Video Telehealth options. CFs are active participants in the care of patients in medical and surgical wards, rehabilitation units (acute, subacute), outpatient clinics, and intensive care units.  They participate in interdisciplinary conferences and rounds, family conferences, co-treatments with other service providers, group therapy sessions, community outings and local and national outcomes data collection (e.g. FIM, NOMS and other outcome measures). There may be opportunities to participate in research as well. CFs are strongly encouraged to take advantage of the many continuing education experiences offered within the hospital and community.  The Minneapolis VA Health Care System is a specialty site for Assistive Technology, a TBI Center of Excellence, and is one of five recognized Polytrauma Centers in the VA. MVAHCS offers CARF-accredited programs in inpatient rehabilitation for amputation, brain Injury, stroke, and spinal cord injury; residential transitional rehabilitation for brain Injury, outpatient brain injury and spinal cord injury, assistive technology, and chronic pain.
