Tenure-Track Assistant/Associate Professor: AAC Emphasis (Cal State-Fullerton)

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track assistant/associate professor beginning in August 2019. Position Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate/graduate courses in communicative disorders with an emphasis in Augmentative Alternative Communication (AAC), Faculty members are expected to engage in a systematic program of scholarly research, actively participate in faculty governance, serve on committees, develop curriculum, provide academic advisement, and engage in activities that benefit the university/community in ways that support an equitable and inclusive environment for colleagues and students.

Qualifications: Required

  • Doctorate in speech-language pathology, speech science, or its equivalent (primary expertise in AAC and additional expertise in at least one of the following areas: multicultural concerns, neurogenic disorders, autism spectrum disorder, research methods, or pediatric medical SLP; strong candidate in other areas of expertise will be considered; ABD will be considered but must have doctorate completed before appointment date.
  • Earned ASHA CCC-SLP and qualified for immediate California licensure in speech-language pathology.
  • Experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness in the area of AAC.
  • Evidence of research potential leading to scholarly publications in the area of AAC,
  • Must have an established record of research productivity and clinical expertise to be appointed at the associate level.
  • Must be able to interact successfully with students, staff, and colleagues within a diverse academic learning community with a strong global orientation.

Qualifications: Preferred

  • Research that integrates evidence-based practice
  • Experience in clinical supervision in the university setting or with students in programs
  • Demonstrated teaching experience with a diverse student population
  • Demonstrated awareness and sensitivity to all aspects of cultural diversity/difference

Rank and Salary 

This is a tenure-track position at assistant or associate professor level. Salary is commensurate with rank, experience and qualifications. Tenure-Track Faculty Position, Cal State-LA (Los Angeles, CA)

Position: Department of Communication Disorders

Assistant Professor of Speech-Language Pathology with an emphasis in one or more of the following areas: Motor Speech Disorders; Adult Neurogenic Language Disorders; Voice Disorders; Alternative/Augmentative Communication; or Fluency Disorders.

Starting Date: August 2019

Minimum Qualifications: 1) An earned doctorate (Ph.D.) in Speech-Language Pathology or other closely-related discipline from an accredited institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. For appointment, the doctorate must be completed by date of appointment (8/19/19). 2) Evidence of teaching, clinical and/or research experience in one or more of the following areas: Motor Speech Disorders, Adult Neurogenic Language Disorders, Voice Disorders, Alternative/Augmentative Communication, or Fluency Disorders;

Preferred Qualifications: 1) Evidence of national certification in speech-language pathology (CCC-SLP). 2) Evidence of eligibility to obtain or possession of California licensure in speech-language pathology. 3) Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level. 4) Evidence of scholarly achievement (e.g., academic or professional presentations, publications in refereed journals) in speech-language pathology or closely related area.

Duties: The primary professional responsibilities of instructional faculty members are: teaching, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and service to the University, profession and to the community. These responsibilities generally include: advising students, participation in campus and system-wide committees, maintaining office hours, working collaboratively and productively with colleagues, and participation in traditional academic functions.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in areas of expertise and other courses in the department in consultation with the Department Chair. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in clinical education in the on-campus Robert L. Douglass Speech-Language Clinic.

The Department/Division/School: The Department of Communication Disorders is located in the Rongxiang Xu College of Health and Human Services and offers programs leading to the B.A. and M.A. degrees in Communication Disorders, and an AuD in audiology. The M.A. degree program in Speech-Language Pathology is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology. Admission to the M.A. program is highly competitive. The eight-year first- time pass rate for the PRAXIS exam in Speech-Language Pathology is 100%. On-site Language Labs are located in the department as well as a Speech-Language Clinic, and access to a large variety of off-campus training sites.

2 Tenure-Track Faculty Positions, Misericordia University (Dallas, PA)

Misericordia University invites applications for two (2) full-time (10 month), tenure-track positions in our Speech-Language Pathology (SLP) Department. Duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, engaging in scholarly activity, advising students, and participating in service. Clinical supervision opportunities are available if requested. Misericordia offers a 5-year combined undergraduate and graduate program. The SLP Department is housed in a state-of-the-art facility that includes academic offices, research labs, classrooms, and clinic rooms. Our cutting-edge technology includes functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy, ANS software and hardware, ISCAN eye-gaze tracking devices, videostroboscopy, Motion Capture Technology, Intelligent Video Solutions for supervision, Sound-Isolation Room with Virtual Acoustic Environment, AAC equipment, Anatomage Virtual Dissection table, and VitalStim biofeedback systems. We also have research and clinical affiliations with area hospitals.

Qualifications for the position are: (1) Ph.D. in Communication Sciences and Disorders or related discipline (ABD will be considered with documented status) and (2) quality teaching experience. Candidates with CCC-SLP are preferred. All specialties will be considered; however, applicants with expertise in neurogenic communicative disorders and/or child/adult speech and language disorders are preferred.
