A year-long CF position in speech-language pathology is available through the Geriatric Research Education andClinical Center (GRECC) at the William S. Middleton Memorial Veterans Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. This will be a blended fellowship experience incorporating training through the Speech Pathology section and the GRECC.

The Speech Pathology Section offers services to inpatient and outpatient Veterans in a Level 1B (second highest medical complexity) acute care hospital comprised of 113 inpatient hospital beds (including residents of the Community Living Center and hospice care unit) and a 16-bed intensive care unit. The CF will interact professionally with specialty services including Neurology, ENT, Med/Surg, Nutrition, Nursing, and other rehabilitation therapies. All CFs will gain experience and provide services in all areas of medical speech pathology, including evaluation/treatment of individuals with dysphagia (videofluoroscopy), speech and language disorders, cognitive disorders and voice disorders. They will also gain specialized experience in cognitive rehabilitation for veterans with mTBI, neurogenic communication disorders, endoscopic procedures (FEES and laryngovideostroboscopy), head and neck cancer, total laryngectomy education and tracheoesophageal voice prosthesis maintenance. CFs will be a part of interdisciplinary clinics, collaborating with ENT physicians and dieticians as part of the Interdisciplinary Voice Clinic, Dysphagia Clinic and Intensive Dysphagia Treatment Program. The CF will also have the opportunity to explore the use of high resolution pharyngeal manometry as part of the dysphagia profile.

The CF will also participate in several weekly Geriatric-based interdisciplinary clinics. Trainees will be integrated directly into these interdisciplinary geriatrics teams and, through administration of standardized screening tools, will identify those Veterans who would benefit from additional dysphagia, speech/language, and/or cognitive intervention from the Speech Pathology service. Additionally, the CF trainee will complete a dysphagia-focused research project through integration with Dr. Rogus-Pulia’s research program. We are seeking candidates with a strong interest in medical speech pathology, geriatrics, and dysphagia research, as well as a desire to grow
professionally in a fast-paced, learning-oriented medical setting.

We are currently accepting applications for a clinical fellow at Mountain Home, Tennessee. The setting includes experiences in acute and critical care, outpatient clinic, and the CLC, which provides short-term rehab, respite, hospice/palliative care, and long-term care. Outcomes/Evidence based practice for treatment across communicative, cognitive, and swallowing disorders is emphasized.

The Mountain Home VAMC clinical fellowship provides experience in the evaluation and treatment of adults with cognitive communication impairments, aphasia, motor speech disorders, dysphagia, and voice disorders. The clinical fellow can expect training in performing fluoroscopic swallow evaluations, stroboscopic voice evaluations, post laryngectomy voice restoration, and assistive technology for augmenting communication and cognition. The clinical fellow works closely with a variety of specialty services and teams including gastroenterology, radiology, neuropsychology, rehabilitation medicine, nutrition, pulmonology, primary care, and the traumatic brain Injury/polytrauma program.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  • CF positions are twelve months. Tentatively scheduled to begin July 2024.
  • CF positions are 40 hours per week (Monday-Friday) with a compensation package that includes salary, health benefits, and sick and annual leave.

The Clinical Fellow will participate in a robust program targeting management of speech, swallowing, and cognition in patients with Parkinson’s Disease.

The Miami VA Healthcare System Audiology and Speech Pathology (ASP) Service is excited to announce a full time Clinical Fellowship opportunity for 2024-2025!

The Speech Pathology program at the Miami VA provides a wide range of services and a dynamic learning environment. We are a Level III Polytrauma Clinic Support Team and are part of the CARF accredited acute rehab unit.

The Clinical Fellow will provide diagnostic and intervention services to outpatients (including telehealth), inpatients, and Community Living Center (CLC) residents. The Clinical Fellow will work and collaborate closely with specialty and interdisciplinary teams including Otolaryngology, Radiology, Nutrition, Geriatrics, Spinal Cord, Neurology, Critical Care, Military to VA (polytrauma), Radiation-Oncology, Home-Based Primary Care and Palliative Care. We provide the opportunity to gain experience with instrumental exams (fluoroscopy, FEES, videostroboscopy), cognitive-communication evaluation and treatment, as well as various special populations (head & neck cancer, post laryngectomy voice restoration, and neurodegenerative disorders). In addition, the clinical fellow will also gain acute rehabilitation experience on our Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program (CIIRP) unit.

The Miami VA is located close to Midtown and Downtown areas where there is a plethora of restaurants, shops, and cultural activities. Miami hosts Art Basel, the South Beach Wine & Food Festival, multiple boat shows, and is home to the Miami Heat, Miami Marlins, Miami Dolphins and Inter Miami CF. The Tampa General Hospital Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship position is an entry-level Speech-Language Pathology position intended to provide mentorship and advanced practice experience with a complex patient population in the acute care setting at a Level I Trauma Center and teaching hospital. The Clinical Fellow will interact professionally with specialty services, including physicians, nutrition, nursing, case management and other rehabilitation therapies. Fellowship Admission Requirements

The following are prerequisites for an applicant to apply for the TGH Speech-Language Pathology Clinical Fellowship:

  • A one-page cover letter describing your interest in the position, previous experience in medical speech pathology, goals for your career, and attributes that make you the best candidate for this position.
  • Three professional references.
  • Two letters of recommendation with at least one from a colleague/mentor who can speak to your clinical skills.

Fellowship Qualifications

  • Education – Master’s degree in Speech Pathology.
  • Provisional licensure by the State of Florida as a Speech-Language Pathologist.

  • Exposure to and passion for an acute care setting or complex adult medical conditions prior to this clinical fellowship experience.
  • Exposure to Modified Barium Swallow Studies.

LEND Fellowship – Oregon Health & Science University

LEND Speech-Language Pathology Fellowship

About the program:
The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental & Related Disabilities (LEND) post graduate degree fellowship in speech-language pathology is a full-time position that lasts for 12 months, and is primarily clinical in nature. This experience includes all clinical hours and requirements for completion of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association fellowship experience. Primary clinical training occurs at the Child Development & Rehabilitation Center (CDRC) Clinics at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital/Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon, with training and mentorship provided by our faculty of speech-language pathologists. Clinical fellows engage in multidisciplinary team assessments in rotations through our Craniofacial, Feeding, Autism, Down Syndrome, Child Development, and Neurodevelopment Clinics.
The fellowship also includes intervention and treatment opportunities for children with communication disorders in the CDRC clinics.

In addition to clinical experience, the clinical fellow will also participate in:

  • Interdisciplinary training in the LEND program
  • Weekly interdisciplinary seminars with topics related to community outreach, family issues that affect children with developmental disabilities, leadership, and policy development
  • Engagement in a family mentoring experience
  • Engagement in a leadership/community engagement project
  • A research project and presentation under the guidance of a mentor
  • Leadership and teaching opportunities
  • Opportunities for continuing education

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities program at the CDRC aims to provide training leadership in clinical care and coordination, family systems, education, public policy, community resources, and advocacy for children with neurodevelopmental disabilities, utilizing an interdisciplinary model. Our annual LEND program includes faculty and a cohort of approximately 16 long term trainees from 12 disciplines, including speech-language pathology.

This fellowship is co-sponsored by the Division of Speech-Language Pathology and the Institute on Development & Disability at Oregon Health & Science University in Portland, Oregon.

How to apply:
Applicants must be a US Citizen or have a permanent residency Visa, have the minimum of a master’s degree in speech-language pathology, a conditional license to practice in the state of Oregon (can be arranged after acceptance into the program), and meet all the requirements for clinical certification except the Clinical Fellowship. Modest stipends will be available for the 2024-25 academic year. Stipends are contingent upon continued grant funding, and fellowships are funded by a grant through the Health Resources and Services Administration’s Maternal and Child Health Bureau. Once selected, trainees will be required to demonstrate that they have health insurance and that they have received all required vaccinations, to include COVID-19 vaccination. Fellows are required to provide proof of up-to-date vaccinations, and if the full panel required by OHSU is not current, then they will need to update vaccinations at their expense. Current required vaccinations include: Diphtheria+Tetanus (within the last 10 years), Polio, Rubella, and Rubeola, or proof of prior disease. COVID-19 vaccination is also required. Fellows are required to provide proof of personal medical insurance coverage prior to starting training, and must maintain that coverage over the course of the training period.
