About the area:
Situated on the banks of the Sacramento River at the northwestern edge of California’s fertile
Central Valley, Redding is surrounded on three sides by mountains, and with a temperate yearround climate, it’s the perfect place for nature lovers and outdoors enthusiasts. The Gold Rush, ushered a period of sustained economic growth. Construction of Shasta Dam, completed in 1945, spurred additional growth and development. The city – the fourth largest in the
Sacramento Valley – is now a mecca for those who enjoy sunshine, hiking, biking, and water
activities such as kayaking, sailing and paddle boarding. Redding boasts a diverse cultural scene, with attractions such as the Riverfront Playhouse, Cascade Theater, Old City Hall, and the
Sundial Bridge. Sculpted by world-renowned architect Santiago Calatrava, this 710’-long, glass
decked, cable-stayed cantilever bridge provides pedestrians with access across the Sacramento
River. Its working sundial – the world’s largest – and elegant design have made it an icon of the
city. With hundreds of great shops and restaurants, a robust wine scene, excellent health care
facilities, a favorable cost of living and scenic getaways like Lassen Volcanic National Park, Mt.
Shasta, the California Redwoods and San Francisco all within easy driving distance, Redding is
an ideal place to call home.
