October 7, 2019: Digital Scholarship Resources at the UW Libraries and Beyond

To launch the Digital Scholarship for East Asian Studies workshop series, we held an introductory session surveying different facets of digital scholarship and the resources available for each at the University of Washington. To this end, we invited librarians from across the Seattle campus to give short presentations on their fields of expertise. These included Verletta Kern, Digital Scholarship Librarian, who provided an overview DS resources within the UW Libraries system; Perry Yee, Online Learning Support Manager, who spoke on podcasting; and Matt Parsons, Maps Librarian, who introduced geospatial analysis. Japanese Studies Librarian Azusa Tanaka hosted the session, outlining the main contours of digital scholarship and showcasing examples from Japanese studies. China Studies Reference and Instruction Specialist Ian Chapman contributed examples from Chinese studies. Participants from diverse East Asian studies fields exchanged perceptions of and experiences with digital scholarship, and offered valuable suggestions for future workshops.
