Do you have chronic pain from a spinal cord injury?

The Problem: Persistent pain affects many people following a spinal cord injury (SCI). It can appear as musculoskeletal, neuropathic, or associated with muscle spasms. Medications are commonly prescribed to help, but these rarely cure the pain.

Our Study: New research suggests that training in self-hypnosis plus cognitive therapy (HCT) can reduce chronic SCI-related pain. Now, we want to find out if people can learn HCT from a therapist via video-conferencing calls and if they experience significant pain relief. If video-conferencing-based HCT works, more people with SCI could benefit from this therapy.

How YOU can help: Researchers at the University of Washington are committed to finding solutions for those affected by chronic pain after SCI. However, without participants — like you — this research would come to a standstill. Feel free to browse the other pages on this website or contact us if you’d like to learn more about the study.

Benefits to Participating: There are NO in-person visits. You have a chance to get FREE treatment for your chronic pain. You can earn up $60.00 for completing study procedures. You can contribute to research that can help others just like you!
