What is The Network Study?
The Network Study is a Department of Defense-sponsored study that aims to track soldiers’ health, career development, and well-being as they leave the Army and enter the civilian labor force.

How does the study work?
For most participants, the study will take place over 15 months.
- First, you will complete a participant application form. If you meet the criteria for the study, you will be invited to complete the screener survey.
- After completing the screener, you will find out immediately whether you are eligible for the next phase. If you are 2-3 months from your separation date: you will be invited to the next phase immediately. If you are more than 3 months from your separation date: we will hold your contact info and invite you when you are 3 months from separation.
- In the next phase, you will complete the consent form and baseline survey, then 1-2 more surveys depending on how much time is left before your separation date.
- After your separation from the Army, we will send you one assessment per month for the following 12 months.
- Some study participants will also engage with up to 3 online exercises following their separation date.
Will I be compensated for participating?
Upon completion of your first post-separation survey, you will receive Amazon gift cards in the amounts listed in the table below. We are unable to pay you for your time while you are still on active duty. Any surveys you complete pre-separation must be done during your off-duty time.

If you are eligible to participate and you complete all the surveys over the 15-month study period, you’ll receive a total of $300 in Amazon gift cards for about 9-13 hours of engagement. Most importantly, however, your participation in this study will help us learn how the Army can make this transition easier and more successful for you and the soldiers who follow.

What will I be asked about?
In this study, you will be asked questions about your general health, well-being, and employment situation.
Some of the questions we ask may be quite personal. We guarantee that your responses will be kept in strict confidence. Participation in The Network Study is voluntary and you can opt-out at any time.
