Forecast: July 21st 2020

The sun is shining again today across most of the state and the heat is on. Most locations are already in the upper 60s to low 70s in the Puget Sound region, and its only going to get hotter for the Seattle area. If you are looking to escape the heat, head to the coast, where a marine push will keep them below the 70 degree mark. Or, if the 80s aren’t warm enough for you, make your way into the Columbia Basin for high temperatures of about 100 degrees today.
The sliver of good news with today’s heat is that it won’t be quite as hot as yesterday’s 87 degrees in Seattle. We will still make it up into the mid 80s in Seattle, with warmer temperatures on the eastside near the foothills. Thankfully we wont be anywhere near our record high of 97 degrees set in 2006.
That marine push at the coast is a sign of some changes coming for the rest of the week. Our ridge of high pressure has shifted eastward, which has started to open the door to some westerly flow. That westerly flow will be bringing some much needed cooler Pacific air into the lowlands tonight, so better sleeping weather is on the way!
Highs for the rest of the week will generally be in the low to mid 70s, with a mixture of clouds and sun. We might see a few stray showers Wednesday and Thursday, but most of us should remain dry and cool.
