Hey Huskies,

Hopefully you are staying hydrated and enjoying this stretch of sunny weather. Unironically, the hottest and driest stretch of weather in Seattle so far in 2020 occurred during the climatologically warmest and driest time of the year. With the long stretch of heat, “Juneuary” is a long forgotten memory.

While warm, today’s expected temperatures in the 80s will come nowhere near the record high of 103 set back in 2009. A weak trough is expected to enter the region on Thursday and there is a chance of thunderstorms on Thursday evening. Do not expect the sunny weather and hot temperatures to disappear immediately. Highs in the mid-to-upper 80s are expected tomorrow and Friday with overnight temperatures in the low-to-mid 60s. Increased onshore flow during the weekend means that temperatures could stay below 80 degrees on Saturday for the first time in nearly a week.

The hot weather is not unique to Seattle this week. Boston is currently a muggy 90 degrees with overnight temperatures in the low 70s. Highs in the low 90s are expected in Salt Lake City, Utah, about eight degrees cooler than their expected temperatures for the weekend. Just across the Cascades, in Yakima, temperatures are forecast to soar back to the 100 degree mark this afternoon. As much of the country endures sweltering temperatures, we in Seattle can appreciate that our neighbor, the Pacific Ocean, keeps the weather a little more bearable during the hottest time of the year.
