Forecast: January 20th, 2021

By Matthew Charchenko

It is a beautiful winter morning in Seattle with dry weather and chilly temperatures. Right now most of us are still in the upper 30s to lower 40s, so it is a great morning for a warm cup of coffee!

We will be sticking with the calm and cool weather today, with mostly cloudy skies ahead of our next storm system. Some showery weather will make its way into Western Washington overnight tonight into early tomorrow morning. Precipitation will be light and mainly centered from Seattle southward. We’ll keep a chance of showers around during the day on Thursday as an area of low pressure slides southward into Oregon.

As that area of low pressure slides southward down the coast, it will start to drag some colder air into Washington. Snow levels will be at about 3500ft today and will start decreasing throughout the week as cold air filters into Seattle.

Highs by this weekend will only be making it into the lower 40s, with low temperatures in the 20s to lower 30s. You may have noticed some snowflake icons on your weather apps, and snow levels do look to drop to about 500ft this weekend, but for right now it is looking like we will be just a bit too warm for much snowfall.

We could see a rain snow mix to start off Sunday morning, with a period of all snow on the higher hills, but its too early to know for certain!
