It may be the last day of spring break, but it feels more like the last day of winter break today in Seattle. That is thanks to a strong cold front pushing through the region, bringing with it a variety of weather conditions. The current radar shows that steady rain extending from BC down to the SW Washington coast with the back edge of cold front starting to push through the NW tip of the state.

If you’ve been enjoying the cherry blossoms then we might be the bearer of bad news. A wind advisory is in effect for Seattle through 6pm today for wind gusts up to 50mph which will likely bring down some of those beautiful springtime blossoms.

We will be replacing that steady rain with a mixture of showers and sunbreaks once that cold front pushes through. Those areas of clearing could destabilize the atmosphere just enough to cause a few rumbles of thunder and pockets of small hail around the sound, especially in a convergence zone between Seattle and Everett this evening.

While the rain and wind will be the main story in the lowlands, snowfall will be plentiful in the mountains where a winter storm warning is in effect for 8-28″ of snow. Combine that with wind gusts up to 40mph, and it is going to be a dangerous day for pass travel if any of you Huskies are trying to make it across before classes start tomorrow. If you can wait, pass travel conditions will improve tomorrow morning.

If you’re looking for more springlike weather, then you are in luck! Monday though Wednesday are looking beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s.
