Happy last Sunday of April, Huskies!
It seems absolutely crazy that we’re already here, and even more so when you look at the forecast for the day (or out your window)! Our old friend April showers made its triumphant return yesterday to deliver more rain in the first twelve hours of Saturday than we saw in the first 550 hours of the month, according to the National Weather Service. Now that’s pretty ridiculous, but somehow not record territory, as the first 25 days of April in 1951 saw a measly 0.04” of rain. For the sake of everyone’s gardens and our upcoming fire season, I’m very glad we didn’t nab that record this time around.
Today will also help us push back to more typical rain values for this late stage in the month (normally 2.34” vs. our current 0.82”) and the rest of the week looks to keep the wet trend alive! Temperatures will climb from around 50° today by about 5° every day until a Thursday treat of 72° before another low pressure system cools us off in a hurry.
Although we’re staring down a string of storms that will shape our week, none of them look to bring much excitement in the form of wind or convection. For that kind of fun, we’ll have to look to our neighbors to the south, where some bubbly clouds could give way to thunder and lightning this afternoon.
We might be on the outside looking in when it comes to thrilling weather this week, but the gray and rainy will not come without some benefits; the water will help lower our fire danger and suppress that pesky pollen that’s run rampant. Plus, as midterms arrive, it’s a lot easier to hunker down and study on days like these. It may not be the week we want, but perhaps it’s the week we need! Regardless of how you feel about it, we’ll have updates here daily, and I’ll see you in the new month!
