Forecast: June 2nd, 2021
By Matthew Charchenko
Another day of sizzling hot weather is on the way for the U-District where temperatures are already at 70 degrees as of 9 AM. That is already above our average high for this time of year! Last night’s low temperature only made it down to 63 degrees on campus, which is quite rare for this time of year.
The satellite picture this morning is absolutely beautiful with those mainly clear skies and snowcapped mountains! We have a few marine clouds that made their way to Shelton this morning and up towards Quillayute that are in the process of burning off. Those clouds are a sign of changes on the way, but first – the heat.
High temperatures today will end up in a similar spot as yesterday, with mid 80s in Seattle this afternoon. By the time the sun sets at 9pm we’ll drop back down into the mid 70s, but its going to be another uncomfortable night for sleeping if you are like most Seattleites and don’t have A/C.
Thursday morning’s onshore push of marine clouds will be stronger than today’s as our upper level ridge of high pressure starts to move eastward. Most of those clouds will burn off into the afternoon hours, leaving us with much more reasonable high temperatures during the afternoon.
If you’re like me and would rather be outside enjoying the sun than studying for finals, you’re in luck! Our weather pattern will continue to shift into Friday bringing rain and clouds back into the northwest for the weekend.
