Hello Huskies! Happy Tuesday!
Last weekend had some incredible weather for the Seattle area, including high wind gusts, including 45 mph at Sea-Tac Airport and near 60 mph at the Strait of Juan De Fuca, as well as lots of rain – some locations got over five inches in just a three-day period. All of this rain led to widespread flooding and river surges, while the wind caused many thousands of people to lose power.
This week, Seattle’s weather pattern will switch from warm and rainy to cool and dry. Today will generally be partly cloudy in most regions, with temperatures climbing to the mid-40s. Any precipitation lingering from yesterday will dissipate, and in the evening, the skies will end up mostly clear. The lack of cloud cover tonight will likely cause temperatures to dip near the freezing mark – watch out for ice on exposed roads and surfaces.
Tomorrow, the same kind of weather event persists, with scattered clouds, but no precipitation, amid temperatures in the upper 40s during the day and lower 40s at night.
Climatologically, the wettest day of the year in Seattle is November 19, with rain being reported nearly ¾ of the time at Sea-Tac Airport. This year, however, Mother Nature forgot to look at the calendar, with the rain primarily occurring on Thursday afternoon and evening, November 18, instead.
Heading into the weekend, the same conditions will persist – some clouds, but no precipitation, and temperatures in the upper 40s during the day and upper 30s at night.
These dry days may not be what makes meteorologists excited, but it will provide some important relief to flood-stricken rivers and other low-lying areas.
In addition, the days continue to get shorter, with next Monday, November 22, being the last day in Seattle with nine hours of daylight this year. With these shorter days, it’s important to get outside to boost metabolic energy. The lack of rain should make most days this week perfect for such conditions!
Have a good week, Huskies!
