Forecast: October 20th, 2022

Hey there Huskies! Happy Thursday!

Today is the final push through the dry and smoky weather before we return to our regularly scheduled programming on Friday and finally see some rain. Conditions will remain dry today in the wake of the pesky upper level ridge, and weak flow will allow the poor air quality to persist throughout the day. Today we will see temperatures that are more typical of October with the high reaching the low-60s.

Yesterday Seattle ranked worst in the world for air quality, reaching very unhealthy levels in the afternoon into the evening. Today’s air quality is expected to remain in the unhealthy to very unhealthy range, so it is advised that sensitive groups limit exposure by minimizing time outdoors.

As the ridge continues to flatten out and a trough begins to amplify, a frontal system will push through the Northwest this weekend bringing rain and cooler temperatures this weekend. The maximum temperature will drop 10 degrees below today’s high on Friday and will remain in the mid- to low- 50s into next week. Our typical rainy pattern is finally here and won’t be going anywhere. Whether you’re rejoicing or mourning the end of this never ending summer, get ready for some chilly weather because fall is in full swing!

Have a great rest of your week (and don’t forget your rain jackets tomorrow)!
