Good afternoon Huskies and welcome to storm season!

This is the time of year that our coastal state is greeted by lots of fronts off the Pacific Ocean to usher in that cozy fall weather. If you plan on walking around campus, make sure to bring an umbrella or raincoat (or both!) as a front has made has its way across our state. Today’s conditions will be cool and rainy with a brisk 54 degrees with lows dropping into the mid-40’s tonight.

Rainy conditions will persist throughout the day. Our expected totals could be as much as a quarter of an inch by this evening! Although thunderstorms won’t be likely around our area, there is potential for thunderstorms along the coast. Keep an eye out for exciting weather as there may be some rotation to spice up the coastal cells.

Overall conditions throughout the Puget Sound will be pretty breezy with gale warnings off the coast and small craft advisories issued in the Puget Sound region. Do we need a rain coat or a warm jacket? Maybe it is time to invest in a 2 in 1 jacket!

The front doesn’t stop at the Puget Sound, it looks like a Winter Weather advisory has been issued for the Cascades with snow totals up to a foot in Stevens Pass by noon on Thursday. Expect some snowfall tonight throughout the next few days as precipitation moves through the state.

Don’t get too bogged down in the rainfall, Huskies, because a weak, shortwave ridge will likely halt some of the rainfall and give us a few sunbreaks tomorrow! This will be a welcome break before another front is set to arrive on Thursday, bringing more rain and windy conditions with it.
