Happy Wednesday, Huskies! Hopefully you’re all surviving week 5 and any of the spooky midterms that it brought your way… And if the testing wasn’t enough, we sure have had our cold weather toughness tested lately. Despite the abnormal start we had to October, we’ve been starting to drift back towards the mean for this time of the year. Speaking of which, here are your current temperatures for Western Washington:

Temperatures reached a near maximum of 53 degrees, and just as a reference, the almanac has 57 for today’s normal Temperature maximum. Our minimum temperature, 42 degrees which we saw overnight, was slightly lower than the normal low of 45. We even were blessed with some sun today, as the partly cloudy conditions helped a little with those temperatures.

For everyone out there worried about how far off our Month-to-Date total precipitation has been, get excited for tonight and Thursday night! While there aren’t any massive systems heading our way, there is quite a bit of forecasted precipitation for Thursday evening going into Friday morning. There is also some expected precipitation for this evening as the slight ridge we had begins to dissipate. A front that will be knocking on Thursday’s door should bring mixed precipitation to Western Washington, where Seattle might see rain as the Cascades see snow. Stevens pass is showing the highest levels of snowfall expected, however the Snoqualmie pass is still expecting a considerable amount.  Fortunately, as we get into Friday night the precipitation looks like it will be dissipating leading to a relatively clear Saturday and Saturday evening as the front passes through Western Washington.

Yesterday’s relatively high wind speeds and gusts are typical of the Puget Sound Convergence Zone that we occasionally see. Tomorrow’s wind speeds are forecasted to be even higher, so it may be wise to bring extra layers for your commute tomorrow. Here’s the 10-m wind speeds for 11am Wednesday morning, where values are reaching 15-25 knots in the Sound:

Looking forward to this weekend and to any activities that may bring you outside, there is a slight chance of precipitation that persists all weekend, although this is rather unlikely until Sunday midafternoon. High Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid to high 50’s with low temperatures dipping down into the high 40’s at night and early morning hours. A more detailed forecast for this weekend is soon to follow!

Have a great rest of your Wednesday Huskies!
