Huskies, welcome to the final (true) weekend of Fall Quarter before exams! I’m here to give you a quick preview of what to expect for this weekend.
Last night was looking very promising for all the weather-enjoyers out there who were anticipating some pretty wintery December snow. Unfortunately, the forecasts promised more snow than we actually got to experience, as last night brought in some wet snow into the city, with most of Seattle receiving a little less than an inch of snow. Overnight temperatures stayed stubbornly over that 32F mark, and caused that very wet and heavy rain/snow mix. Just a little to the north, however, places like Everett saw up to 3 inches of snow. The Cascades and its foothills saw the most snow last night, with similar values over in the Hood Canal and Olympics area. Here’s what the snowfall totals look like from last night:
So far, Saturday’s weather has been much more favorable: with clear skies and a mid-afternoon high around 43F, as any of the snow that was able to stick to the ground from last night will melt. Overnight temperatures start to drop into the high 30s just as the sun sets, and reach a minimum around 30F early Sunday morning. The skies remain mostly clear overnight, as some cloud cover rolls in with the falling temperatures.
Looking ahead to Sunday, tomorrow’s afternoon high is forecasted to be slightly cooler than today’s, with temperatures peaking around 38F just after noon tomorrow. There is a slight chance of precipitation tomorrow, with the most likely chance occurring between 1 and 4pm. Despite the cooler temperatures, the chance of snow is very low as any precipitation that falls tomorrow will likely fall as rain. Here is tomorrow’s peak in radar reflectivity, Seattle is predicted to be around 15-20 dBZ, which corresponds to a rain rate around .01-.02 inches/hour – a mist:
Overall, its looking like a pleasant and clear weekend, perfect for any last fun activities before dead week. Good luck with Week 11!
