Happy Thursday Huskies!
This week’s weather has been pretty uninteresting, with today being no exception. The cloudy weather stuck around all day, with a high of about 46 degrees, on par with temperatures this time of year. The same clouds that made our skies gloomy today will act as a blanket overnight, keeping low temperatures in the area above 40 degrees. However, this stretch of dull grey weather ends early tomorrow morning, as a front arrives. Most of this rain is going to fall in the early hours, drying up for the morning commute. After initial showers Friday, a cool upper level trough arrives in Western Washington, which will bring more rain on Saturday.
After Saturday’s showers, things will start to dry up again, but more importantly they will also cool off. An artic air mass will bring temperatures well below average for this time of year, with highs in the mid 30s, and lows in the 20s. For a more in-depth look at what changes this air mass will bring, as well as what this means for snow (don’t get your hopes up in the lowlands), check out this morning’s blog. But for the visual learners out there, here is a look at how Sunday’s temperatures compare to today’s.
This is what North America looked like in terms of high temperatures today. Notice how Seattle is in the dark blue/green area, which corresponds to temperatures in the mid 40s. Now let’s look at Sunday.
Now Seattle is in the blue/grey area, which corresponds to temperatures in the low 30s! That’s a significant difference. It’s also easy to see how the artic has invaded many other parts of the Northern US, with some places experiencing the same temperatures as the far reaches of Canada saw today.
Needless to say, it will be a pretty chilly start to week 5 here in Seattle. At least with days getting longer, we’ll have more time to appreciate the sun when it makes an extended appearance Sunday and Monday!
