Happy Sunday Huskies!
The official total from last night’s snowfall was 1.6” at SeaTac. If you were disappointed by all of the slush this morning, don’t worry! We have a chance for more lowland snow this week. While it is too warm for widespread snow later today, a convergence zone may develop in South Snohomish County this afternoon, bringing limited snowfall. Temperatures will drop down to near-freezing levels tonight.
A low currently over the Pacific will move towards the Oregon Coast tonight. Monday morning will be our first chance for snow as the low spits some precipitation our way before temperatures have a chance to warm up. The effects of this on Seattle will be minimal with less than 1” expected. Parts of Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis counties could see a bit more with 1-2” expected. Any accumulation will likely start melting soon after as temperatures rise above freezing in the afternoon.
Our best chance for snow will occur Tuesday morning. The area of low pressure will start moving northeast into Washington on Monday night. Snow levels will also drop once again after sundown. Precipitation associated with the low could lead to 1-3” of snow for parts of the lowlands. There is a bit of uncertainty on exactly where snow will fall so check in again tomorrow for more updates.
While it still feels cold enough to be deep in winter, our days are steadily growing longer. We have only 1 week until our first 6 PM sunset, 2 weeks until the time change, and 3 weeks until the Spring Equinox. 12 hours of daylight is in sight!
