Warmest Days of 2023 So Far

Happy Friday Huskies!

Also Happy St. Patrick’s Day! I hope everyone had some good luck on their finals this week.

We started out rather chilly this morning with temperatures getting down into the mid 30s and even low 30s away from the city. Though we are now warming up and it should be a very pleasant spring day to finish off the quarter. Here is a look at some of the high temperatures we can expect to see across Western Washington this afternoon.

Today is an interesting weather day here in Seattle because we could hit 60 degrees for the first time this year. Assuming we hit 60 degrees today, it will have been 148 days or roughly 40% of a year that SeaTac has been below the 60 degree mark. So if you have been thinking it’s been a while since it felt at all warm outside, you are correct.

Later today, some higher level clouds will move in as a weak disturbance moves over the area. You can see this area of clouds just off the coast in the satellite image below. There will not be any precipitation from this, but the clouds will prevent temperatures from getting as low as they did this morning because they like a blanket keeping the heat from escaping the atmosphere.

These clouds will clear out during the daytime on Saturday where we get above 60 degrees again. Some areas may even be a few degrees warmer tomorrow than they are today. However, make sure to get outside and enjoy these days if you can because clouds and rain will start to move back into western Washington by Sunday night. It will not be a lot of rain, but it will be enough to remind us that Washington State springs are not all warmth and sunshine.

Well I hope everyone had a great winter quarter and congratulations on making it through finals week.

Have a great Spring Break Huskies!
