Seattle Finally Sees Spring

Hello Huskies! The forecast for the rest of the week? SUN SUN SUN! With these warmer temperatures and sunny days coming up, it’s safe to say that spring has officially sprung (although it’s a month late)!

We are finally starting to see an increase in temperatures after this unusually chilly April. Typical April maximum temperatures range from 57 at the start of the month to 63 by the end and so far we have only had one day climb above the normal high temperature. Today started with some clouds, but those have scattered allowing the sun to shine through and raise our temperatures. However, onshore flow is keeping today’s temperatures more mild. The current temperature is 65, making it the second day this month we have surpassed the normal temperature.

We will without a doubt crush those normal temperatures over the next few days. Thursday’s high will be in the upper-60s and Friday’s will stretch into the upper 70s and into the lower 80s if we’re lucky. Friday’s warm temperatures will be compounded by easterly wind coming off the Cascades: when the winds descend from those higher elevations, it compresses and warms.

The record high for April 28 was 76 degrees set in 1968 and we will likely see that record broken on Friday! The warm trend will continue into Saturday with temperatures in the mid-70s. On Sunday, all that will change as a front moves across western Washington and onshore flow resumes. This will bring clouds, a drop in temperatures (nothing compared to what we had earlier this month, though) and even a chance for scattered showers through Monday. But worry not, we’ll see another warm up on Tuesday and Wednesday.

It’s looking like Friday and Saturday will be the warmest days of the year thus far, the perfect Week 5 pick-me-up! Make sure to spend some time in the sunshine and get that vitamin D!
