With current temperatures in the mid 60s and mostly sunny skies, it is a beautiful day here on campus. High temperatures across the region will range from the mid-60s up to the low 70s, though it will be windy in the mountains and foothills through this evening. Temperatures will cool off a bit in the evening, with overnight lows in the upper 40s and low 50s.
Though temperatures will be warm for most of the weekend, tomorrow is looking like the standout in terms of high temperatures. We have a pretty good shot at breaking the record high of 76 degrees at SeaTac tomorrow as highs will likely be on either side of 80 degrees in Puget Sound region. Temperatures on campus are expected to be in the low 80s. I might even wear shorts tomorrow afternoon, which is saying something coming from a born-and-raised Californian.
With this first round of warm temperatures come some important hazards to take note of. For those of you brave enough to go swimming in the cut, or planning to go swimming elsewhere in the area, water temperatures will still be in the upper 40s to low 50s, which is dangerously cold. Keep your water activities close to the shore, away from any swift moving water, and monitor swimmers for signs of hypothermia. Hikers heading to the Cascades and Olympics should also be aware that the Northwest Avalanche Center has issued a special avalanche bulletin for both mountain ranges ahead of this weekend.
Though Friday will bring the warmest temperatures, Saturday will likely also see temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s. However, it will start cooling off on the coast ahead of the cooling marine push Saturday night. Combined with a low pressure system, this rush of cold air will bring back the clouds and average temperatures, along with some showers. Clouds and showers will stay in the area for the beginning of the week, with a chance for thunderstorms on Tuesday. Temperatures could warm a bit after that, but not to the level that we will see this weekend.
Enjoy the lovely weather, Huskies and stay safe!
