Hey Huskies! Hope you all are having a good week so far! 💛💜
This week, we have seen a huge drop in temperatures. Going from nearing record highs last week to approaching record lows overnight this week. We have definitely seen a change. Overall though this October our temperatures have still been above average. Our average high has been 64 while historic average highs are around 61. Lows have also been above average with usual October lows averaging around 48 degrees but thus far in October we’ve seen lows of on average 51 degrees. 🍂
As we get into the heart of this week’s cold high pressure, expect to see some frost accumulate, this period of unseasonably cold temperatures coupled with clear skies will give way for surface temperature to reach the low-to-mid 30s. Be careful on early morning commutes tomorrow morning, and keep any outdoor plants safe from the damage frost can cause. ❄️
This trend of cold and dry weather is going to continue through at least the first half of next week. We can attribute this cold snap to a ridge of high pressure off the coast causing northerly flow, which brings cool and dry air from Canada into western Washington. After Tuesday, the models are unsure whether the ridge will weaken and bring rain or stay strong and keep us dry through the end of week 6. The Climate Prediction Center’s 6-10 day outlook seems to favor rainy weather, though. 🌧️☔
Regardless of the temperature outlooks, make sure to keep the puffer jackets and sunglasses out and ready because the brisk and sunny weather will be sticking around with us for at least the next couple of days. Luckily it might ward off that seasonal depression we’re all too familiar with as the temperatures drop around mid-fall quarter. 😊🌤️
