Drying Out (for now)

Last updated 3:15PM, Wednesday December 6th, 2023

Happy Wednesday, Huskies! Jackets dried out yet? After a few days of record-breaking rainfall and warmth, we’re sure you’re ready for a return to more typical December conditions. We got a good shot of snowfall last weekend, as shown in the mountain snow depth as of Monday afternoon:

With nearly a foot at both Stevens Pass and Crystal Mountain, Pacific Northwest skiers were chomping at the bit to get out on the slopes. The weather gods had other plans. This week’s Pineapple Express skyrocketed snow levels up to 9,000 feet, and rainfall melted a significant amount of the newly fallen snow.

As we see here, snow depths have fallen off a cliff and skiers are crying themselves to sleep. Showers are expected to continue throughout the evening today into tomorrow, with clearing conditions finally on Friday.

A transient, weak ridge will be passing through our neighborhood later this week, giving us our much-anticipated break from our scheduled seasonal depression. With any luck, we’ll all get to see a bright yellow orb in the sky Friday for a few short hours before our return to regularly scheduled programming. During this break in the weather, snow levels will begin to fall once again through Saturday, leading to renewed mountain snowfall during the end of the week as our next disturbance arrives from the Pacific.

Hang in there, Huskies!
