Happy Tuesday, Huskies! We hope you had a restful three day weekend and stayed warm during the Arctic temperature outbreak. Despite the low temperatures, we still received some decent sunshine and afternoon warmth yesterday and that has continued today, as the mountain is out in full glory this morning. Tonight a storm will be moving into the area dashing the prospect of continued sunrays for much of our week. In the webcam view below, virga is falling from some passing clouds, giving us a little insight into what is to come this evening.

Today we will reach a high similar to yesterday in the mid-to upper 30s thanks to the partial sun. Although it feels like we are warming up compared to this past weekend, we are still more than ten degrees cooler than the average high for mid-January. Tonight temperatures will drop near freezing, only a few degrees less than today’s high due to a slight occluded front making its way into our area.

With some cooler air still lingering at the surface this evening, precipitation could initially fall as a mix of snow, sleet or freezing rain before transitioning to all rain after midnight. With the warming of temperatures, minimal accumulations of ice or snow is expected around the Sound, except up north near the Canadian border. The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for Western Washington lasting from 4pm today until 1am Wednesday.

As we move into week 3, expect the frigid temps of the past week to be just that, a thing of the past. We will seeing rising temperatures persist for the rest of our week and likely into next week as well, as we return to the clouds, rain, and mid-40s for the foreseeable future. Enjoy your shortened week, Huskies!
