A Brief Glimpse of Blue Skies

Happy Tuesday, Huskies! We hope you enjoyed the break from the rain, as blue skies peaked through the grey blanket that has grown just a bit too snug over the past few days. Below you can see some stratocumulus over downtown Seattle and Queen Anne, but some beautiful cirrus over north Seattle, the Sound, and out to the Olympics. Closer to home though, we will be expecting darker skies to pervade as we enter into the late afternoon, for we are watching a potential return to wet weather as soon as early tomorrow morning.

As for temperatures this afternoon, most areas around the Sound are peaking into the low to mid-50s for highs. A big change from what we’ve experienced for the last several weeks. These balmy temperatures are unusually high for this time of year and will persist into most of the week.

An upper level trough will move over our region late tonight bringing wet weather early tomorrow morning through Thursday evening. We can expect about one inch of precipitation to accumulate before we get another break from the showers on Friday. Temperatures will remain in the mid-to upper 40s until we see a jump in temps this weekend.

The warmer and wetter weather we’ve been experiencing the last few days is indicative of a broader pattern that will be present in the region for the next week and a half. Expect much warmer temperatures and higher than average precip to be the normal as we head into mid-term season. Temperatures could be high enough that we may even see a warmer than average January despite the intense cold we experienced two weekends ago.

Enjoy the rest of your week Huskies, and good luck studying for midterms!
