Seattle on the Ropes for 3-Day Record High

Hey Huskies! Hope you’re enjoying the unseasonal warmth these past few days as we enter the throws of midterm season. Over the past two days, we have set record high temperatures at Sea-Tac airport, 61 degrees on both days. Up north in Bellingham, they saw summer-like temperatures, with a high of 68, on par with the average high on the first day of summer.

As for today, we reached a high temperature in the mid-to upper 50s. Again warmer than the average high for this time of year, but not quite enough for a record high hat trick. The clouds will stick around this evening and temps will stay mild, dropping to a low near 50 degrees. For those of you commuting home this evening, the sun will set at 5:06pm, nearly increasing the day length by one hour since the 1st of the month. We now have about 9.5 hours of daylight here in Seattle, which will only increase as we inch closer to the spring equinox.

For the next few days, we will have a special weather statement in effect for most of Western Washington. Due to high soil moisture from the heavy warm rain over the weekend, the ground is loose and unstable. Any additional moisture could see enhanced risk of landslides. Two landslides have already been observed in Western Washington, so be careful if you plan to travel on any unsealed roads or through the passes over the next couple of days.

Over the next two days, we will continue to stay warm in the mid-50s but will see the return of wet weather. Tomorrow is looking to be the soggiest day this week, then on Thursday we should see sunbreaks throughout the afternoon to lead us into a dry Friday. Temperatures will continue to float above average so you will only need to grab a light jacket on your way out the door.

Have a great rest of Week 5 and good luck on any upcoming midterms!
