Good afternoon, Huskies!
The day so far has been showery around the Sound, and we’re looking to pick up another half-inch of precipitation before the rain tapers off late this evening. It is exceptionally dreary outside right now, as heavier rain showers are about to move into the Seattle metro as we speak.
We thank this relatively continuous rain to an area of low pressure offshore, granting us southwesterly flow. This allows for showers to move in from the Pacific to Puget Sound unobstructed by the Olympic Mountains. You can see this area of low pressure directing winds onshore right through the lowlands in the below graphic. This is a pretty shallow low, so winds should be light, but just enough to direct rain into the greater Seattle area through tonight.
After this small area of storminess moves on to our northeast, we will be left with weak winds and no notable weather makers in the region. Thursday and Friday bring a minor chance of some showers, but otherwise you can expect cloudy skies and mild temperatures. With a little luck, you might even see the sun. The below graphic illustrates the lack of structured flow Thursday afternoon.
As for the weekend, the cloudiness should stick around, with highs in the mid 40s expected both days. The nicer of the two appears to be Saturday, with a chance of showers returning to the region on Sunday.
Have a great rest of your week, Huskies!
