Spring-Like Days Before a Wintry Comeback

By Alec Weise, Gabby Castronover, and Joseph Renalds

Good afternoon Dawgs! You may have noticed an unfamiliar object lurking in the sky. We call this the sun.

Today is expected to be a dazzling spring-like day as temps are expected to rebound up into the mid-fifties, slightly above average.

Sunshine and some fair weather cumulus clouds will be the main theme today.  Tomorrow will start off foggy as a high pressure and inversion layer will aid in the formation of it, but by the afternoon it should vanish as we enjoy another marvelous day. This pleasant weather will be brief as a series of unsettled weather enters the region starting Saturday.

Hope week 8 treated you well, Huskies! This coming weekend, expect to see a small change in our usual weather patterns. Starting Friday night, Seattle is going to get a large amount of cloud coverage giving us a wet and gray weekend.

If you want to get out this weekend, Saturday morning/afternoon is looking to be your best option with slightly low precipitation expected. Heading over into week 9, things really start to take a turn due to an upper trough of colder, low pressurized air settling over Washington. Temperatures are going to dip down into the 30’s and stay below the mid 40’s. We may even see some possible snow flurries on Monday; stay tuned for updates on that!

Here you can see the aforementioned trough moving in over the region to start next week.

This will be associated with a fairly potent cold front that will lead to heavy mountain snow and breezy conditions on Sunday afternoon and evening.

The tougher part of the forecast will be how low the snow level could get on Monday and Tuesday mornings. We are not expecting any significant snow here, but it is possible that we could see a few flakes somewhere in western Washington in the early morning hours. Because it is almost March now, daytime heating will warm us up fairly quickly so anything that may fall would quickly melt.

But for you that forecast is next week’s problem. Our team advises you to get out and enjoy this pleasant weather before things take a turn for the worst or best if you are us weather nerds. Have a great rest of you week Huskies!
