Did You Miss Winter?

Happy Wednesday, Huskies!
Feel the chill this morning? Today will be the first of a string of days coming up with highs only reaching the mid-50s.
A weak cold front moved through the area earlier in the day, bringing with it these cooler temperatures and the occasional rain shower. However, Puget Sound should be in the rain shadow for most of today. Current radar imagery shows showers popping up all around Western WA, but we stay nice and dry for the time being.
Thursday, however, is a completely different story. Seattle is expected to get over half an inch of rain by Thursday evening, thanks to widespread stratus rain instead of the post-frontal showers happening today. Rain will persist in the forecast for at least the next seven days. The NWS is so confident of this that rain is mentioned in their forecast for the next six days and nights straight.
Pretty depressing, we know. On the bright side, this is a chance to show off your puffy rain jacket once again before we finally start heading into the dry season. In fact, according to UW meteorologists, we’re going backwards into the dreaded Third Winter. At least all this rain will knock the pollen counts down, for now…
Taking a look at our radar for the rainiest day of this week, Thursday, skies should be in full overcast as moderate rain continues throughout the day into Friday. In the mountains, our passes will be below snow levels, however the higher elevations will receive a healthy amount of snowfall with these storm systems.
Friday through the weekend we’ll also be seeing unseasonably low temperatures, plenty of rain, and general dreariness. Stay tuned for the coming blogs as we go through this stretch of wet weather. The end of the tunnel is looking to be at least a week out, so hang in there.
Good luck on any midterms this week Huskies, and have a good rest of the week!
