Sunny, Dry, and Above Average Highs – Oh My!
By Jake Stevenson, Haley Furutani, and Sam Pham
Hey Huskies!
We hope that you are enjoying the sunshine today, after the dreary cloud cover that briefly returned yesterday. We’re looking forward to an above average high temperature in the next few hours to go along with our abundant sunshine. However, we will be seeing a drop in temperatures overnight as clear skies allow for all of the suns heating to escape into the atmosphere leaving us quite cool tomorrow morning.
For those of you with seasonal allergies, grass and trees will be shedding their pollen tomorrow so you may find yourself with the sniffles or itchy eyes. In order to avoid the worst of your pollen induced symptoms, you can change your clothes as soon as you get home, take a shower to wash the pollen off your body, and close your windows if possible to avoid excess pollen entering your home.
A weak ridge of high pressure will continue through Wednesday, bringing more of the abundant sunshine and warm temperatures that we saw today. Expect a similar high temperature tomorrow in the low 70s across the Sound. However, the ridge begins to wane out by Thursday and Friday, cooling us down and increasing cloud cover over the region. Highs will be hovering around the low to mid-60s for this portion of the week. A passing shower late Thursday night into Friday morning is possible, however we are not expecting any significant accumulations. Overall, conditions are looking to stay mild and spring-like for the rest of the week.
As we approach the summer solstice, our hours of daylight are slowly increasing here in the Pacific Northwest. We surpassed 15 hours of daylight last Sunday and will see 9pm sunsets by June 2nd – just three weeks away! Our longest day will top out at nearly 16 hours long on June 20th and from there, hours of daylight will slowly decrease as we head into the heart of summer.
Hang in there if you’re feeling burnt out- we’re in the homestretch of spring quarter! Have a great rest of the week, Huskies!
