Welcome back Huskies to week 9! I hope you’re all hanging in there and enjoying some of the spring conditions while getting ready for the summer. Coming right after the sunny street fair weather we’re seeing similar clearer skies today. However, getting into the rest of the week, some rain will be coming in tomorrow along with much higher cloud coverage. It may be a bit breezy throughout the day tomorrow with some more possible breezes coming in for the weekend, which may make it feel a bit chillier than the mild temperatures of around 60 degrees we’ll be experiencing this week.

As stated in the five day outlook, we’ll be seeing the sun hide away, as rain comes in to dampen up Tuesday. We’ll see relatively cool conditions throughout the week as we approach Memorial Day Weekend. As the weekend approaches there is a chance for the sun to peek through the clouds with potential for dry celebrations.

The upper-troposphere gods are to thank for today’s mostly sunny skies. A weak ridge is passing through, allowing for a stable environment and dry conditions. This will be our last nice day until later in the week, so enjoy the seasonable temperatures and lack of rain while you can!

All things considered, however, we could use some more rain. We’re about 2/3 of an inch behind normal rainfall for the month of May, and over 4 inches behind since January 1. Several low pressure systems will dive through our region from the gulf of Alaska, starting tomorrow (displayed below) and with another one on its tail as the week concludes.

So don’t be surprised by the ambush of puddles going into Thursday. By Thursday around the Seattle area, Everett and Bellingham are looking at .77 and .82 of an inch respectively, with Seattle itself sitting at 1.05 of an inch. With the speed of this accumulation sneaking up on city goers, make sure to bring some raincoats for your daily commutes on campus.

Though the rain may be showing its face this week, keep up your sunny spirits as we trudge on through the second to last week of lectures.

Have a great Monday Huskies, UWDawgcast signing out!
