Lowland Rain, Mountain… Snow?

Good morning, Huskies!

Still in need of some winter weather? This morning, Snoqualmie Pass resembled January more than May, with light snow once again blanketing the base of the ski resort. According to the Summit at Snoqualmie’s Twitter, it may have been a couple decades since it has snowed at such a low elevation this late in May.

This morning in the lowlands, the region has been waking up to more of the same weather–dreary, cool, and cloudy–but thankfully no snow! Temperatures as of this morning’s commute are right around the 50-degree mark, with some very scattered showers focused towards the Cascades and further south into Oregon. With winds expected to be coming from the NW through the day today, Seattle should remain dry. The clouds, however, will be sticking around a little while longer.

As shown on the GRAF model’s cloud cover product, by noon today Puget Sound will still be mostly cloudy, with clearing skies towards our coastal regions. But later tonight towards sunset, this too will change for the better.

By 8 PM tonight, the same model shows partly cloudy to sunny skies across the I-5 corridor, potentially making for a decent sunset view tonight. By Thursday morning, skies will be clearing once again and high temperatures will consequently rebound into the upper 60s. Thursday’s forecast as a whole is rather pleasant, a little treat for us still sun-deprived Seattleites.

After Thursday, however, the cloud cover will once more blanket the region for Friday and a potentially wet Saturday. Have hope, though–the Memorial Day forecast is looking pleasant at this time, at least. If we’re lucky, the closing chapter of Spring Quarter will be written under clear skies and warm temperatures.

Keep up the good work, Huskies, we’re getting close to the finish line!
