Happy Tuesday, Huskies!!
It might’ve been a hectic start to commute to campus with the rain and subpar traffic conditions this early morning. Luckily, it looks to be clearing up as we go about our day. Today, we’re expecting a high in the mid-60s and low in the low-50s. Note that this is around the usual of what we’d expect for this time of year with a bit of a warmer overnight temperature than average. Unlike the record of a muggy 80 in 1951 and a cooler 39 in 1961, we are sitting comfortably in the mid 50-60 zone. Although still cloudy, the rain will ease up going into the evening and tomorrow when we’ll probably get to see some more sun peeking through. Fingers crossed.
Though the weather in the northwest has been relatively uneventful, the weather in the southeast has been far from it. The west coast of Florida is preparing for its second major hurricane landfall in the past 2 weeks. Hurricane Milton is currently north of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, and has wind speeds that are at the upper end of the category 4 range. As of right now, Milton is expected to make landfall on Florida’s central west coast tomorrow evening as a major hurricane (category 3 or higher). Communities in the Tampa Bay metro area will see the most extreme impacts, including hurricane-force winds and over 10 feet of storm surge. It’s a lot easier to talk about it from the exact opposite side of the country, but our thoughts are with all of those whose lives have been affected by both Milton and Helene.
Looking forward, our three-day forecast shows light rain in the morning on Wednesday and a high of 60. The temperature drops to 49 overnight. Thursday is mostly sunny with a high of 59, dropping down to only 54 that night. Friday is a bit more cloudy but with a high of 60. The temperature is staying mild for the next three days and expect some light showers throughout Wednesday.
In the next 48 hours, precipitation is expected throughout Wednesday but there will be more rain at 4:30 pm on Wednesday. While you’re commuting make sure to grab a rain jacket for the quick shower. For the most part, we’re looking at a warm up for the rest of the week, so stay tuned for more blogs!
