Wind, Rain, and Humidity… Oh My!

Be sure to gear up for this classic autumn weekend in Seattle, Huskies! With an atmospheric river on the horizon, we’ve got gray skies and Sunday showers coming our way. Perfect weather for staying warm and cozy in the library while studying for upcoming midterms. Looking at this rainfall graphic, we can see the north cascades and peninsula regions will be getting the bulk of this weekend’s rainfall. If you plan on visiting friends at Western this weekend or you’re traveling to that area, be sure to pack a raincoat!

Along with our incoming Atmospheric River, we will be seeing a significant rise in humidity and dew point temperatures as the injection of subtropical air settles into the Puget Lowlands. In and around Seattle we will see dew points into the mid 50’s, near even to the actual temperature! Although we at the moment don’t have any fog in our forecast due to the high wind gusts expected this weekend, be on the lookout for patchy fog and slick road surfaces as any rain that falls this weekend will not readily evaporate.

With midterms approaching for many of us, be careful not to let your notes get blown away if you’re planning on studying this weekend! We’ll see winds around 15 mph with gusts reaching up to 30 mph. The higher end of these winds will occur early in the morning, so keep an eye out for any trees or power lines that were knocked down overnight. Of course, while Seattle may see winds up to 30 mph, these winds are significantly higher up north near Everett so be extra careful if you’re traveling in that direction.

Heading into early next week, things begin to settle down as only a few lingering showers will last through the early morning hours on Monday. By midday, we should dry up and see a few peaks of sun through the overcast, signaling an end to the active weather. While we will see more sunshine going into Tuesday and Wednesday, expect some of the season’s coolest temperatures yet. Highs in the region will only stretch into the low 50s with overnight temperatures hovering in the 40s. It’s a great time to break out the fall and winter wardrobes and start thinking about layering!

Have a great weekend Huskies!
