Good afternoon Huskies! What did you think of this weekend’s atmospheric river? Crazy stuff, right? Are your gardens flooded?

What? No rain? You must have enjoyed the influence of the Olympic Mountains’ rain shadow effect! With deep plumes of subtropical moisture streaming across the Pacific from the southwest, water was wrung out like a sponge on the higher terrain, including readings of 6-8 inches on the Washington coast and over 10 inches on Vancouver Island. Meanwhile, largely subsiding air behind the mountains led to readings of only a few hundredths to tenths of an inch in the Seattle area.

The current radar as of just after noon shows light showers moving through the Seattle area, with heavier showers located to our south moving towards Olympia. A line of showers is also currently located off the coast which should be impacting the coast later today. Scattered showers will continue throughout the region this afternoon, with the showers mainly directed towards the southern Puget Sound through later today. We could see some heavier showers in Seattle this evening, though the shower chances slowly diminish overnight.

Looking ahead for this school week, as mentioned above Monday could bring light showers to us in between classes. Tuesday expect a wetter morning but by the afternoon the sun will begin to poke through. This mix of overcast and sunbreaks will last through the end of the week. You may notice the temperatures for this week are predicted to stay below 60 degrees, this is quite normal for this time of year. You can expect the gradual transition to fall continue to drop our daily temperatures.

Well Huskies, midterms are looming.
