Here Comes the Rain Again

Hey Huskies!
We hope that the cheery weather has somewhat assuaged your election anxiety, however, as always in Seattle, the rain will return. The remainder of Friday will most likely be dry despite the gray cloak that has settled comfortably over the Puget Sound. Starting Saturday the first round of rain will be moving through the region, but this is just a teaser for what is to come as by Sunday a storm system will bring driving rain and wind to our region. Be careful of difficult driving situations if you plan to travel for the long weekend, and watch out for falling snow levels in the passes as temperatures drop amid the deluge.
Zip up those rain jackets, huskies! There’s a storm a brewin’! Coming Sunday, a large spout of upper level disturbance will greet us with wind and rain. Chances of hail also pose a threat to our weekend. This heavy rain and gusty winds will stick around into Monday and begin to ease up into the following days. Temperatures won’t be too chilly at around the low 50’s and lows in the upper 40’s. However, expect to say goodbye to the sun for a little while as the overcast will be with us for much longer. One good thing about this upcoming storm is that it’ll bring mountain snow to the cascades! So essentially, when one cloud closes, another cloud opens!
As hinted at before, snow levels and freezing levels will be headed downslope this weekend as a powerful storm sweeps through the region. Although it is unlikely that Snoqualmie pass will see ground level freezing with this system, it is a good bet that some sleet or flakes could be flying as you traverse the cascades. Farther north there is a better bet of ground level freezing, as Stevens pass is on the borderline snow level and may well see accumulating snow at some point this weekend. Regardless of if you’re heading over I-90 or Route 2, make sure to pack chains just in case and exercise extra caution on the roadways if you plan to travel across the mountains.
Hope you all got out and enjoyed the sunshine and warmth we’ve had for the past few days, because we’re not seeing any more of it for a good while! We’ll be seeing several frontal systems pushing all this moisture, rain, and cool air into the Western coast. And as if rain wasn’t bad enough, Monday and Tuesday will also be marked by high winds as the storm blows past. At the very least, this weather will provide a good excuse to relax and prepare over the three day weekend for the week ahead. Take advantage of it!
As we observe veterans day this weekend make sure to show appreciation to any veterans you know or see as you go about your day on Monday. Stay safe and have a wonderful long weekend, Huskies!
