Happy Friday Huskies!
We’ve finally made it to the end of week 9, storm and all. This day in history we usually see high temperatures in the low 50s and lows in the low 40s not a far cry from what is forecasted for today’s high and low temperatures. While some blustery and wet weather is on tap it will thankfully be nothing like what we saw earlier this week. Light to moderate rain will be gracing the U-District as a few gusty winds could be felt around campus, be sure to keep your rain jacket handy and watch out for slick roadways if you’re heading home early for Thanksgiving week.
As power starts to finally return around the Puget Sound many of you will be looking ominously to a new low pressure that is circling off the coast. Thankfully we can expect a much milder beast than the one we fought earlier this week. On Tuesday winds gusted to over 60 miles an hour in many spots. The East side especially was hit hard due to a strong pressure gradient created between a high pressure in Eastern Washington and the extreme low off the coast. By contrast we only expect gusts into the low 30’s with our new storm. Our new storm is also moving up the coast quickly and much of its energy is being blocked by the Olympics, a proper recipe for lesser winds and low precipitation totals.
After the hectic week brought on by the bomb cyclone, things are calming down this weekend on the wind/rain forecast. We have an area of low pressure hanging out around the PNW this weekend but it is much weaker in strength than the previous storm. Nevertheless, we will still see some showers and breezy winds these next few days. For today, we will be lucky to see temperatures in the 50’s. Saturday and Sunday are going to be a bit on the chillier side with temperatures staying around the mid to low forties.
Wrapping up this week, rainfall totals will vary with coastal communities surpassing an inch of rainfall while Seattle is expected to pick up a quarter of an inch. We will see mostly showers with a few sunbreaks throughout the rest of today and Saturday, with our next round of steadier rain moving through on Sunday. Beyond that, a few leftover showers will continue into the early part of next week. By Monday, the models are suggesting that we will experience a drier period with morning clouds and afternoon sunshine taking charge.
Dawgs, conditions this weekend are nowhere near sunshine and rainbows but after this past Tuesday, we in the PNW gotta take what we can get!
