Good Afternoon Huskies!

Welcome back to a new quarter and new year as UW jumps headfirst into 2025. We at The UW Dawgcast are ready to prepare you for all the weather news, stories, and developments that 2025 has in store. So let’s hop to it for the first blog of 2025!

During December, the Cascades received lots of snow which is keeping most regions in Washington near or above average for this time of year. This is great news for those of you hoping to start skiing this winter or just drive up to enjoy the snow covered evergreens.

Moving closer to home, the next five days on campus are looking pleasant, if cold. Wednesday and Thursday we have some morning fog and highs in the low 50’s with cloudy to partly cloudy skies. However, on Friday we have a dip in pressure and, with it, some rain and mild wind arriving in the early afternoon. But don’t be too down, for the weekend looks relatively clear and chilly with highs in the lower 40’s through no freezing temperatures (yet!).

While the weather here may not be that active, down in Southern California, the Santa Ana winds are producing strong gusts and dangerous wildfire conditions throughout the Santa Ana mountains. The Storm Prediction Center has issued a critical risk of wildfires through tonight for the area, and an extremely critical risk for tomorrow. Winds could gust up to 80mph or possibly more in isolated spots.
