Good morning, Huskies!

It’s another cold and foggy morning this Tuesday, with the weather looking to stay chilly, but calm. Today’s high and low temperatures are both a little colder than the average, but well within the normal range compared to the records from previous years. We are expected to see some colder temperatures later in the week, along with some light sun, clouds, and more fog.

A look at our satellite this morning shows a layer of low clouds over the region, encompassing most of the lowlands. This cool and relatively calm air mass is producing low visibilities in many parts of Western Washington. Take it slow on the roadways, particularly when the fog is dense. Any fog should clear by midday, and then redevelop overnight which will be a common theme for the next several days. There is also a slight risk for freezing fog which will mostly be a concern for areas outside of Seattle that dip down further below freezing.

Now, you might have noticed it’s been chilly these past couple of mornings, and if you’re loathing that feeling, brace yourself. Heading into Wednesday night and Thursday, temps will be close to or at freezing for much of the Puget Sound Lowlands. And, with an intense ridge of high pressure above, fog will develop and not only reduce visibility, but also lead to frost on grassy surfaces and windshields. You should get out earlier than normal and warm up your vehicle if you notice it is a little frosty outside. Heading into the weekend, it’s gonna get colder. You should consider bundling up more as we head into “that” part of winter. Temps could dip into the low, low 30s with some areas getting into the upper 20s. We recommend scarves as an excellent way to keep your neck warm!

Looking through the rest of the week, temperatures will stay in the low 40s, dipping into the 30s overnight. Wednesday will have a high of 45 and eventual sun peaking out in the afternoon. Thursday will stay in that same temperature range but there is a slight chance of showers in the late afternoon. Friday will have a high of 42 and a low of 31, going back into the pattern of foggy mornings and afternoon sunshine that will continue into the weekend. Sunday has a high of 41 to finish out the week.

Stay warm Huskies!
