Happy Wednesday, Huskies!

We hope you were able to brave the fog and find your way to campus this morning. It was majorly socked in, as indicated by the Space Needle Panocam’s view this morning of Lake Union.

Why the fog? The region has been under the influence of an upper-level ridge for the last several days, allowing for subsidence and mostly clear nights, and cool north/northwesterly flow. Cooling near the surface has contributed to overnight fog formation each morning — but with such a stable pattern also comes the threat of air stagnation. AirNow has Seattle with moderate air quality, and Puget Sound Clean Air advises lighter activity levels across the region.

A weak front moving in Thursday will increase the likelihood of light rain late Thursday afternoon. This system will be short-lived and replaced with an upper-level ridge from offshore, ushering in cold and dry conditions. Drier air in the lowlands from this new ridge will dissipate the fog we have been dealing with over the past few days, and we can expect it will no longer be an issue after Friday.

Tonight if you plan on attending the men’s basketball game at 6:30 against Purdue plan for a chilly walk down to Alaska Airlines Arena. The fog will likely linger into the evening and even strengthen as the temperatures drop. We hope you head on down and cheer on the Dawgs tonight for Pitbull night!

The week looks like it’ll have a lot of clouds which means low visibility. Make sure to prepare for the sunny weekends. Some potential for rain on Thursday so be sure to dress accordingly. A lot of possibility for lower temperatures throughout the week. Enjoy the week and the sunny days that come with it.
