Cold, Crisp Mornings?

Good morning, Huskies!

We hope you enjoyed your MLK Day weekend and also tried to stay warm and cozy! There’s a lot to cover in today’s blog. Just kidding: we have nothing to cover in today’s blog but cold, crisp mornings. Though temperatures are forecasted to dip a little below freezing in most spots, it could mean some pretty frost and black ice. Current temperatures are warmer than the previous record lows at this time of year, but also significantly below the average, so if you’re planning to spend time in the sun, make sure to bundle up.

The ridge that has been in place for the last few weeks remains over us, and is looking to stay for the rest of January. This means we’ll continue to have pretty stagnant weather, although the morning fog we saw last week is gone, replaced with some beautiful sunshine. We also won’t see much rain this week, except for a stray shower Thursday night or possibly Friday. Chances of any accumulation are low, but this would be the only thing to shake up our otherwise repetitive week!

Even though it may seem chilly here, many portions across the United States are seeing the brunt of the frigid temperatures from the arctic blast. The Gulf Coast in particular is anticipating sub-freezing temperatures with some rare accumulating snowfall. Some locations, such as New Orleans, may even drop into the teens as the arctic front moves by 🥶. Even parts of northern Florida will see some snowfall later this evening, while we in Seattle will remain snowless for our winter so far.

Snow lovers, don’t lose hope yet, we still have the month of February which has historically been favorable for PNW lowland snow this past decade. Stay warm and have a great rest of your week, Huskies!
