The Halloween countdown is on, Huskies! However, don’t let the sunshine fool you now. We got a rainstorm brewing this Halloween. So whether you’re planning to hit the city in costume or head to a haunted house, make sure to be prepared.
Thursday finds us under a high-pressure ridge, bringing rare mostly sunny skies (with some high clouds passing through), and highs reaching the mid-50s. Be sure to take advantage of the sunny skies to do your leaf peeping across campus!

However, our sunny weather won’t last for long, with another atmospheric river (long and narrow current of deep moisture) poised to arrive in the Pacific Northwest on Halloween. Expect rain to gradually increase through the day, filling in across Seattle by nightfall. Bring a poncho (or find a creative way to add a raincoat to your costume) as you go out trick-or-treating!

Rainfall totals will likely reach 1-1.5 inches across Seattle, so be prepared for areas of standing water, big puddles, and potentially some clogged storm drains, as we have winds gusting up to 30 mph on Friday and Saturday.

Finally, a brief update on Hurricane Melissa…now a Category 1 hurricane racing northeast toward the Bahamas, and eventually Bermuda. After devastating landfalls in Jamaica and Cuba, the hurricane will move much faster through the Bahamas, briefly pass Bermuda, and scrape the Canadian Maritimes as it weakens and moves out to sea. Unfortunately, it will likely take months to years for Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti to recover from Melissa’s impacts.

Enjoy the Thursday sun, Huskies, and be ready for that Halloween rain!!
