Tribal & Urban Indian Community Outreach

The CIH’s engagement goals are to do outreach to all of Washington’s 29 Federally Recognized Tribes and large Urban Indian communities by visiting up to five Tribes and communities a year with the objectives to:

  • Enter into Memorandum of Agreements with the Tribes and Urban Indian Communities Health and Wellness Clinics for our students to rotate at these Tribal entities.
  • Engage Indian Educators of these communities to track Indigenous learners from elementary school through college to strengthen the capacity of the learners to successfully matriculate to medical school.
  • By proxy, the CIH will continue, through the UW School of Medicine, to work with Tribes in Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho (WWAMI region), that comprises of about 230 Federally Recognized Tribes in the United States.

The UW School of Medicine currently has agreements with the following Tribes and Urban Indian Communities in Washington State:

  • The Jamestown S’Klallam Family Health Clinic
  • The Lummi Nation Tribal Health Center
  • The Native Project – Spokane
  • The Puyallup Tribal Health Authority
  • The Tulalip Tribes Health Clinic
  • The Seattle Indian Health Board
  • The Nisqually Tribal Health and Wellness Center
